Program Purpose

You are invited to a Systems of Care (SOC) Cross Training to be held September 15, 2004. This training is sponsored jointly by LawtonPublic Schools and the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. National, state and local leaders have collaborated to bring this opportunity to ComancheCounty.

Presenters and facilitators will be providing awareness and introductory level training regarding a model of service delivery known as Systems of Care. In effective Systems of Care programs, schools; mental health centers, psychiatric treatment programs, social service organizations, juvenile justice programs, and primary health care organizations coordinate services to most effectively address the needs of children and youth with behavioral and emotional health care needs while allowing them to remain in their communities.

Faculty

John VanDenBerg, Ph.D. has over 15 years experience as a human services consultant, working in the U.S. and Canada. Dr. VanDenBerg managed the first demonstration of cross-agency statewide wraparound process, the Alaska Youth Initiative. He has been a major innovator and pioneer in development and improvement of the wraparound process, which now reaches over a quarter million families worldwide. He has a bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State College in Colorado and a Master’s and Doctorate in Developmental and Child Psychology from the University of Kansas. John has been instrumental in bringing Systems of Care to Oklahoma.

Program Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, the participant shall be able to:

  1. Discuss the basic definitions and values of system of care and the wraparound process, and compare current direct practice to national best practices.
  2. Describe the process of services integration, and how this process has unfolded in recent years in North America and in Oklahoma.
  3. Explain how Oklahoma is implementing systems of care and the wraparound process, and about the goals of the Oklahoma Systems of Care Initiative, which represents all major human services and education systems and family organizations.
  4. Restate the current strengths and challenges of the child-serving agencies in ComancheCounty.
  5. Develop a long-range vision and next steps for implementing systems of care in ComancheCounty.

Continuing Education Credits

Continuing education credit hours (5.25) have been applied for through the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers, the Licensed Behavioral Practitioners Board, and the Licensed Professional Counselors Committee.

How to Receive Your Certificate of Attendance
Certificates of attendance will be distributed at the end of the seminar. If you have an emergency and are unable to complete the seminar, you may pick up a certificate before you leave which will reflect the actual hours you were in attendance. Participant evaluation forms must be submitted in order to receive continuing education credit and a certificate of attendance.
