Programme Outline

This is a segmentised programme about animals. There are visuals and music videos that teach pupils names of different animals and their babies. Animals shown in the programme include: goats, chickens, ducks, dogs, pigs and elephants.

In another segment, pupils play a guessing name about the sound of a chick. Finally, pupils are encouraged to draw their favourite animal and introduce it to their classmates.

-to interpret and use simple given information through processes or activities such as describing (K.D. b)

Communicative Functions

  1. Identify common animals found in Hong Kong and describe them very simply

Suggested Activities

  1. Motivate the class by showing them pictures of different animals. Ask pupils to identify the animals and write the names of the animals on the blackboard.
  2. Give out Copymaster 1 to pupils before viewing the programme. When pupils hear the song, Dogs are barking, wow, wow, wow, in the programme, they have to follow the visuals and fill in the missing words in the lyrics. Teachers can replay the song to the pupils and encourage them to sing along the lyrics.
  3. Pupils complete Part 2 in Copymaster 2 after viewing the programme. Teachers can read out the descriptions to the pupils and ask them to note the characteristics of each animal described. Pupils should also draw a picture of each of the animals described in the boxes provided.

  1. In Part 3, Copymaster 3, pupils need to draw a picture of their favourite animal and write a few sentences about it. Teachers can encourage pupils to show their picture to their classmates and describe it to the class
