condition and value survey of thE VESSEL
“endurance”
SEPT. 4, 2002
INTRODUCTION
ACTING AT THE REQUEST OF MR. CRAIG KILPATRICK AN OUT OF WATER AND IN THE WATER SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED ON THE YACHT “ENDURANCE” ON SEPT.4, 2002.AT THE NOANK VILLAGE BOATYARD.
THIS YACHT SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED WITH REASONABLE CARE IN CONDUCTING A VISUAL INSPECTION. IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT THERE IS NO GUARANTEE OF THE TRUE CONDITION OF THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS OF ENGINES, GEARS, COOLERS AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT. ALL RECOMMENDATIONS AND JUDGMENTS ARE BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE AFTER A ROUTINE EXAMINATION OF THE VESSEL AND DISCUSSION WITH THOSE FAMILIAR WITH THE VESSEL.
NOTE: IT IS RECOMMENDED AND UNDERSTOOD THAT ALL DIESEL AND GASOLINE ENGINES BE SURVEYED BY A QUALIFIED ENGINE SURVEYOR TO DETERMINE THE CONDITION OF THE ENGINES AND ASSOCIATED PROPULSION EQUIPMENT.
THE MANDATORY STANDARDS SET FORTH BY THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF TITLE 46 UNITED STATES CODE AND TITLE 46 AND 33, OF THE CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS WERE USED AS A GUIDELINE IN THE CONDUCT OF THIS SURVEY. ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES DEVELOPED BY THE AMERICA BOAT AND YACHT COUNCIL AND THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION WAS ALSO USED AS A GUIDELINE. THESE RECOMMENDED PRACTICES ARE CONSIDERED VOLUNTARY, HOWEVER, “JOHNSON MARINE SERVICES” CONSIDERS THESE STANDARDS HIGHLY SUGGESTED.
THE DEFICIENCIES REPORTED IN THIS SURVEY REFLECT THE CONDITION AT THE TIME OF THE SURVEY.

Design and Construction:
The vessel “ENDURANCE” IS a production AUX SAILING vessel built by ERICSON YACHTS OF FULLERTON, CA. IN 1989. The vessel was constructed using marine grade materials and quality workmanship throughout. She has been built to A.B.Y.C. and N.F.P.A. standards (as of her construction date), and has been upgraded since. Her main construction material IS fiberglass reinforced plastic in the hull, deck, and underbody. portions of the deck and superstructure have been cored to minimize weight while maintaining strength. The vessel is equipped with all necessary U.S.C.G. safety and related equipment for a vessel of her size and intended use (unless otherwise noted below).
Her intended use is a near coastal pleasure craft with LIMITED offshore capabilities. She is equipped below deck with accommodations for 5 with ample storage room. She is constructed with an enclosed head and a U.S.C.G. approved sanitary HOLDING & DISCHARGE system. A 12 H.P. UNIVERSAL DIESEL INBOARD WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE A LOW AMOUNT OF RUNNING HOURS USED POWERS THIS VESSEL. THIS IS BASED ON THE VISUAL AND RUNNING APPEARANCE OF THE ENGINE.
Scope of Inspection:
During the inspection of the vessel, which was ashore and properly supported, then launched and sea trilaed, sound tests were performed with a hard MALLET on portions of the hull, deck, and underbody. These tests were performed to determine the soundness of the structure and its laminates. A Sovereign moisture meter was also used to check for excessive moisture in the hull and its laminates. All such readings were taken under 5 % relative moisture (unless listed below), which is well within acceptable limits. There is no guarantee of the true condition of the laminates unless core samples are taken and lab tested. In the interior portion of the vessel, all floorboards were lifted, drawers removed, and lockers opened to check their interior spaces. No fixed joiner work or interior liners were removed and are not covered in the scope of this survey. The vessels engine Was NOT RUN for a period of 60 minutes while on the sea trial and dockside portions of the survey. DURING this time all fluids and GAUGES were checked for proper levels and operations. A THERMAL SCAN OF THE ENGINES COOLANT SYSTEM WAS ALSO UNDERTAKEN. A visual and meter test of the electrical systems was also performed at the time of the survey. All U.S.C.G. safety required equipment was checked for approval and expiration as required. All of the above was found satisfactory unless otherwise listed below.
* Indicates 1st priority items (those which may be structural, safety, of coast guard required).
** Indicates 2nd priority items (those which are cosmetic or an upgrade).
Safety and Coast Guard Equipment:
*1. THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER WHICH WAS FOUND ON BOARD IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD AND SHOULD BE REPLACED PER N.F.P.A. RECOMMENDATIONS. IT IS ALSO RECOMMENDED TO HAVE AN ADDITIONAL EXTINGUISHER LOCATED IN AN ACCESSIBLE AREA FROM THE HELM POSITION.
Hull, Deck, and Hardware:
NO DISCREPANCIES WERE NOTED AT THIS TIME.
Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical:
**1. the cabin light located in the head was not working at the time of the survey.
SAILS & RIG:
no DISCREPANCIES were noted at this time.
Conclusion:
Upon completion of this survey, the vessel “endurance” appears in sound structural condition needing some minor maintenance work, as is sometimes the case with a used vessel. It is the surveyors opinion that this vessel is considered to be a good insurance risk, with the above 1st priority items corrected. She has BEEN USED as a pleasure cruiser and has been maintained IN ABOVE average to near bristol condition. Based on the condition and equipment found on board, the vessel and equipment has a current market value of approximately $35,900. as equipped, and has a replacement value (new) of $89,000. This assessment is based on the sales of vessels of this size, age, and comparably equipped being sold in the Northeast area. The BUC used boat price guide, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. was also used as a guide in the assessment.
This report is submitted without prejudice and is for the exclusive use of Mr. craig kilpatrick. This report is in no way to be misconstrued as a warranty or guarantee of the vessel or its equipment therein. This survey details the condition of the vessel at the time of the inspection and represents the undersigned’s unbiased opinion but by submitting this survey does not hold the surveyor liable for any reliance on information based on this survey.
Respectfully Submitted,
