CASTLE GRANDE 2016

GRAND HAVEN, Michigan –May 18, 2016. Castle Grande offers an opportunity for the community to enjoy sand and sun while learning the basics of sand-sculpting. With tips and tricks from area professionals, community members of all ages can prepare for Sand Sculpture Contest or just enjoy an afternoon at the beach.

The Chamber of Commerce Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Ferrysburg has partnered with the Sand Fanatics, a sand-sculpting troop that shares a passion for Michigan beaches and sandcastles, to present the 2016Castle Grande event. The professional sand-sculpting group will have periodic demonstrations and training sessions to assist community members to create beautiful sand art.

Paul Speulstra of the Sand Fanatics said, “The basic premise of Castle Grande is to invite as many people as possible to build the biggest sand castle possible. More than that, it offers a teachable moment where you discover, ‘so that’s how they do it’ and realize ‘I can do that too.’” Individuals are also able to implement the techniques learned at Castle Grande to participate in the Sand Sculpture Contest, held in August.

The fun begins on Saturday, June 18, 2016, 10am at Grand Haven City Beach. The Sand Fanatics will pound upa main central castle to a height of 7 or 8 feet theninvite other teams, groups, families and individuals to connect their castles side-by-side along the waterfront to form one continuous sand castle. The event is expected to end at 4pm.

This event is free and open to everyone! No matter what your age or experience level, bring your own bucket and enjoy a great summer day full of sun, surf, and sand art!
