How to Take Control of your Meetup Emails

Below are some ways to take control of your Meetup emails, and to keep unwanted emails from clogging up your primary email inbox.

First, set your email preferences for each of your Meetup groups:

  1. Click on “Account” (top right of page).
  2. Click on “Membership and Communication” (left side of page).
  3. Edit your communications settings for each Meetup group.

Also, it gives you much better control if you use a second email address for your Meetup emails, in order to keep the Meetup emails from clogging up your primary email inbox. Some people may want to have just two email addresses: the primary one for important emails and a secondary one for Meetup emails and everything else. Other people might want to have a separate email address just for Meetup emails. It is very easy to set up a second email address:

  1. Go to Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, or another free email web site. Set up your second email address.
  2. Then go to Meetup and click on “Account” (top right of page).
  3. Edit your email address and change it to your new email address.

From now on all of your Meetup emails will go to your second email address, and they will not clog up your primary email inbox. Whenever you want you can check your Meetup email at your second email address.

Another way to keep Meetup email from clogging up your primary email inbox is to use the spam function available with most email providers. Just click on the spam button when you are reading a Meetup email, and from then on Meetup email should be routed to your spam folder, where it will periodically be deleted. You can still go to the spam folder and read the Meetup email before it is deleted. This way is easy, but it does not give you as good a control of your email as using a second email address, plus it risks having email deleted that you might want to keep.

In summary, to control better your Meetup email:

  1. Set your email preferences for each of your Meetup groups.
  2. Use a second email address for receiving your Meetup email.

Also, if you leave a meetup group, then that will end receiving any email from that group.
