IS THERE MORE TO LIFE?:
Did you ever feel like saying or have you ever heard someone say, “There must be something more to life.” Whenever we feel like saying or hear someone say, “There must be something more to life” it shows we need more of Jesus in our lives. Having Jesus in the center of our lives makes our whole life better. Every day is better with Jesus in the center. When we have Jesus where he belongs our whole life just falls into place.
A father wanted to read a magazine but was being bothered by his little girl. She wanted to know what the United States looked like. Finally, he tore a sheet out of his new magazine on which was printed themap ofthe country. Tearing it into small pieces, he gave it to her and said, “Go into the other room and see if you can put this together. This will show you our whole country today.” After a few minutes she returned and handed him the map, correctly fitted and taped together. The father was surprised and asked how she had finished so quickly. “Oh,” she said, “on the other side of the paper is a picture of Jesus. When I got all of Jesus back where He belonged, then our country just came together.”
(Unfortunately I do not know the source of this story which I have edited.)
Yes, when we allow Jesus where he belongs our whole life just falls into place. This season of Lent is a gift from Jesus to get Jesus back where he belongs in our lives and to allow everything in our lives to fall into place as it should.
So at the end of Lent we want to have ourmind and heart renewed, to berenewed in spirit, to have ourfaults corrected, ourminds raised to Godand to havegrown in holiness. At the end of Lent we want to have the picture of Jesus put back together again properly in our lives because Jesus is the “something more to life” that we are looking for.
(Fr. Tommy Lane )

GUIDELINES FOR LENT AND EASTER 2009
Regulations for Fast and Abstinence:
Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.
Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does no oblige. Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.
Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, other suitable forms of self-denial are encouraged.
Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.
ASH WEDNESDAY MASS AND ASHES: Although not a holy day of obligation, Ash Wednesaday is the traditional day to begin our annual period of atonement. Fr. Charles will celebrate mass at the Shrine at 10 a.m., and Msgr. Frederic Elkin of the USN will celebrate at St. Jude at 7 p.m.
