Announcements:

  1. Dale announced that the next Lower Green Water Watch Steering Committee Mtg. will be 6pm at the Country Cupboard Restaurant in Madisonville on 4/5/01
  2. He also reported that there was a Karst Monitoring Workshop being held at the Cave Museum in Horse Cave on Sat. 4/7 at 9am (CT)
  3. He also requested volunteers to host the upcoming RBT meetings, so the members could see different problems/treasures in our watersheds. Pat is attempting to set the next one up at the Green River Lake project. The date of our next meeting may need to be change to May 16th- anyone who has a conflict with that date, please contact me ASAP. If there are several, we will reconsider our scheduled date.
  4. Dale also indicated that a prototype taskforce is being formed for in the Bacon Creek Watershed that will be addressing that stream's water quality problems. The project will be aimed at assisting the community of Bonnieville to address the fecal coliform problem that impacts the stream. Anyone who wants to volunteer to be on the taskforce (to be called Bacon Creek Council) should let Dale know. If you want to suggest someone please do.

Where Do We Go From Here?

The Basin Management Framework indicates we are in the assessment phase of the management cycle, with agencies collecting samples for analysis and evaluation. During this period our functions are not delineated, however, we can do more than wait for the sampling data (about 1 yr.).

Dale mentioned that this was a good time to turn our focus to public out reach (educating the public, non-participating agencies, and local officials). He also suggested that we take advantage of groups that already exist and make presentations at their meetings.

The following suggestions were made:

  1. A powerpoint presentation should be made that any of the team members could use.
  2. A Watershed Awareness Event be setup - get prizes donated from businesses and award them to the winner of a Watershed Awareness poster contest and to attendees (by drawing).

Next Meeting: Regularly scheduled for 5/09/01, but may change to 5/16 Stay Tuned
