TEAM

/ Major Donor Fundraising

DAYS / 2-3 days per week

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE TEAM’S WORK

The Major Donor Team (MDT) is based in the Marketing Department at Amnesty International UK and has primary responsibility for managing AIUK’s relationship with high net worth individuals, trusts and foundations, and companies who are giving donations of £5,000 or more.

The team includes 10 staff members. 5 of which are based in the Major Donor Individual Team, 3 in the Trust and Corporate Team, a Research and Information Manager and our Head of Team.

The Trust & Corporate fundraisers raise funds from trusts, foundations & companies to support the income targets of the team and the wider operational needs of AIUK. They also develop beneficial relationships between companies and AIUK.

The Trusts & Corporate Fundraising Volunteer will undertake research, develop new fundraising opportunities, help with standard applications and assist with administrative tasks. The role requires strong writing and analytical skills, and would be particularly suited to someone interested in pursuing a career in the trusts & corporate fundraising sector.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research

  • To assist with the trust & corporate research programme, identifying and highlighting information on current and potential funders.
  • To use various search engines (Trustfunding website, Factary subscription, Profunding etc) to identify and research information on donor prospects.
  • To be pro-active in identifying and researching potential sources of funding for AIUK
  • To produce donor and prospect profiles and briefings as required
  • To help update the team database.
  • To work with the team to develop and achieve team objectives and plans.

Fundraising Support

  • To prepare applications to trusts, drawing on pre-written cases for support.
  • To write clear and compelling good news updates for donors.
  • To provide administrative support, e.g. mailings, data entry/capture, filing.
  • To assist with recording and thanking of corporate gifts.
  • To provide events support, e.g. setting up and follow-ups with prospects and donors.
  • To assist, as needed and agreed in advance, with the wider work of the team.
General
  • To undertake other relevant duties or projects delegated by the line manager, which are in line with the responsibilities of the post.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in working for a human rights organisation and who wants to gain experience in the trusts fundraising sector.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Interest in fundraising, particularly trusts and/or corporate fundraising
  • Office administration experience
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong analytical and computer skills, including database experience
  • Good organisational skills
  • Research experience
