Welcome to COMP-106 - Spreadsheets. My name is Ken Tishenkel and I’m looking forward to working with you as we progress through the creation of Excel Spreadsheets.

First, let me tell you a little about myself. I began my employment after graduation with Link Flight Simulation in 1987. My primary responsibility was installing and supporting digital image generation for the Apache AH64 Helicopter Flight Simulator at Fort Rucker, Fort Campbell, and Fort Bragg Army bases. Flying this helicopter simulator was one of the best video games you will ever experience. I began my career with AT&T Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies, and more recently Alcatel-Lucent in 1989. My career has span performance engineering, software development, project engineering, and technical management. I’m currently developing signaling software features for next generation Voice over IP (VoIP) platforms.

Contact Information:

I have provided for three means of contact.

E-mail –

Email is the best way to reach me. I will be checking my email every evening during class unless the power is out or my ISP is down.

General Q&A Bulletin Board

A bulletin board has been created on the Course Web Site for general questions and answers. You may post questions to this bulletin board for the benefit of both yourself and your classmates. One advantage to this means of communication, however, is that not only can I answer the question, but also your classmates. You now have 20+ potential solutions at your disposal. (I have to admit, though, that I am terrible at checking this folder. I’m really great at e-mail, though.)

Phone – (614) 864-7278 (HOME)

Beware; I have three kids; two that like to answer the phone, and a 10 year old that’s following in his big sisters steps. ;) Don't hesitate to call if you need to speak with me by voice. Please don't call after 10:00 p.m. EST..

Office Hours:

I will stay before or after class depending on room availability and try to use that time period as my office hours. Any questions you might have outside of class, however, are best handled via e-mail.

Course Web Site URL:

As alluded to above, there is a web site associated with this course. Included within this web site is the information contained within your student manual, weekly announcements, bulletin boards, and grades. The web site can be accessed at https://my.franklin.edu/ You will need a password to access the site.

Assignments & Grading Procedures:

The drop box is used for assignment 1-1 (myitlab), assignment 2-2 (cell copying and cell reference), and assignment 3-4 (project – putting it all together) submissions on the required due date.

Myitlab training, exam, project homework, and project assessment will be graded automatically on submission through Myitlab’s web site.

Detailed user tutorial is available at http://video.franklin.edu/Franklin/tutorials/dropbox/facultydropbox_overview.htm

Once grading is complete for 1-1, 2-2 and 3-4, I will upload a grading rubric to the student's drop box.

I will be using the class grade book to post grades and comments. Be sure to check it to be certain you don't miss any assignments.

Please bring a USB jump drive to class so that you can save the examples you work on in class. Franklin doesn’t allow students to save anything on the class PCs.
