Exeter Symphony Orchestra AGM held on October 4th 2016

Chairman’s report

Miles Leonard as retiring chair delivered his report for the previous year. This had already been sent out to all members via Mailchimp. The orchestra has had a very successful year culminating with the huge success of the Devon Wildlife Trust concert in the cathedral in July.

Vacancies still exist for a Treasurer and a social media link person but Miles was pleased to report that Judith Taylor has agreed to be our new venue booker as Tamsin leaves at the end of term.

A draft constitution has been circulated and although it will need tweaking as time goes on, this was adopted by a majority.

Financial Report

In the absence of a Treasurer this was given by Miles. A summary had been circulated to all members. The finances are in good shape with approximately £5000 in the bank. Retiring collection on concert days this year will go to the Lord Mayor’s Charity, the Devon Freewheelers.

Musical Director’s Report

Brian delivered his report to the members. The orchestra continues to improve. Brian was especially thrilled with the July Concert. Plans are well under way for an exciting few years of music making ahead and Brian is now beginning to think and plan for the 2019 programme. He thanked the orchestra for their hard work and a great year of music.

Leader’s Report

This was presented by Gill Crew who is retiring as leader after the next concert. She thanked the orchestra for their commitment and progress during the last year and emphasised the importance of working as a team, which is paying dividends. Gill welcomed new members to the orchestra and urged everyone to fill out the Skills Audit if they haven’t already done so. Particular thanks went to the string section for their support. It has been an enjoyable and valuable experience.

New Chair/Vice Chair

Phil Hobbs as incoming Chair gave a brief report. He and Nicky are immensely looking forward to the challenge and have been made most welcome by everyone. He emphasised the urgent need for a Treasurer. Clearly we cannot function without one and if necessary, someone outside the orchestra will have to paid to do the job.

AOB

Tamsin Lufkin re-iterated the need for someone to come forward to be Treasurer and urged all members to fill in the Skills Audit sheets.

Finally, Josh Beadon thanked Miles and Viv for their huge efforts on behalf of the orchestra and a presentation was made.
