I. NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF FIRM
The company which started with only 3 employees now has a work force of more than 150 people. Its annual sales have been in excess of US$ 4 million and the company has been consistently listed among the top 3000 corporations in the Philippines since 1994. The company is divided into five (5) divisions:
• Machine Shop
TMIC’s pioneering venture was in the machine shop business. It started with a small unit of lathe and drilling machine. As the needs of the customers became more sophisticated, Tiger Machinery decided to invest heavily on large-scale and modern equipment.
• Fabrication Shop
The fabrication shop is staffed with certified welders and equipped with modern technology. This division has spun off other ventures such as hard facing and on-site repairs, machining and heat treatment. Tiger’s hard facing technology is in partnership with Durum-Verschleiss of Germany.
• Foundry
Tiger Machinery is the only foundry in Asia to be granted an under license to produce Avesta’s special grade materials such as 153MA, 253MA, 353MA, and 254SMO. Aside from the patented Avesta standards, the company also produces manganese steel, CrMo steel, various stainless grades, high chrome steels, high chrome cast irons and others.
It has recently invested in a computerized heat treatment furnace to have better control of the furnace environment and attain the desired mechanical properties. Furthermore, TMIC has increased its melting capacity with the purchase of another induction furnace. Quality of castings are ensured by the use of various laboratory equipment such as the spectrometer, nitrogen analyzer and metallographic microscope, to name a few.
• Thermal Spray
In its effort to continually improve its services, the thermal spray is the latest technology acquired by Tiger Machinery. It is the process of building up or restoring worn out parts to its original dimension. It may also be used as a protective coating for parts subjected to harsh environments.
• Trading
Tiger Machinery is the exclusive distributor of the following foreign companies who are respected leaders in their industries around the globe.
1. Outokumpu is a dynamic metals and technology Group. It aims to be a leader in all its core businesses: stainless steel, copper products and technology. Outokumpu's products, technology and services are marketed worldwide to customers in a wide range of industries - from catering and households to building and construction, transportation and industrial machinery and equipment, as well as to electronics and communication.
2. HARDOX wear plates are only produced by SSAB Oxelösund, the forerunner among heavy plate manufacturers, located in Oxelösund at the Baltic coast of Sweden, about 1 hour drive south of Stockholm. HARDOX was launched in the market in 1970 and has been continually developed to meet the needs of our customers.
3. Durum has more than 25 years experience in the development, manufacture and marketing of materials based on fused tungsten carbides and has become one of the leading and most competent partners for protection against wear.
4. Hasle Refractories is the only Danish producer of refractory materials. The factory is based in Roenne, on the island of Bornholm. They manufacture a wide range of refractory products, consisting of castables, mortars, bricks and prefabricated modular linings + specialized solutions for a number of industries.
5. Hoyt Darchem are leaders for over 50 years in the development and production of whitemetal alloys of the highest quality and the manufacture and repair of whitemetal bearings. Hoyt alloys are produced under controlled conditions from premium grade virgin materials to ensure the ultimate purity and consistency for maximum performance under the most demanding conditions.
The company has strived to improve its products and services by utilizing the latest technologies from developed countries and tapping Filipino ingenuity. This formidable combination has made TIGER MACHINERY a forerunner in the metal replacement parts business in the Philippines. It is the only company in Asia holding an under license to cast Avesta (Outokumpu) 253MA since the mid-80's. It also has a partnership with Durum Verschleiss- Schutz GmbH of Germany for its hard facing technology.
For decades, Tiger Machinery concentrated its marketing efforts in the local industry. It began to export its castings and fabrications in the late 90’s. The company now exports its products to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, China and other neighboring Asean countries. Tiger Machinery continues to improve its technology and equipment as it dedicates to meet the needs of both the local and international clients.
