LITTLE MILTON CE (VA) SCHOOL ADMISSION POLICY(draft)

Admissions during 2013/2014

The Governing Body of the school are the admitting authority for all admissions to the school.

This admissions policy has been published after consultation with the Diocese and the Oxfordshire Local Authority.

This Policy is to be used for entry to the Reception Year in 2013-2014, and also for In Year applications during 2013-2014.

Reception Year 2013/2014

The dateof admission for children born between 1st September 2008 and 31st August 2009 will be 1 September 2013.

The admissions number for Little Milton School is 10 children for entry to reception year.

Applications for the reception academic year beginning September 2013 should be received by15th January2013 irrespective of which term your child will start in. Parents will be informed in writing onXX May 2013 whether their child has been offered a place in reception.

Details of the application process can be found in the Oxfordshire County Council Starting school booklet. It should be noted that parents living outside Oxfordshire at the time of application must complete the application form provided by the local authority in whose area they live. The Oxfordshire booklet and CAPF application form are available in the school office or can be completed online at

Deferred Admission

Parents have the right to defer entry until the child becomes of compulsory school age (the term after the child reaches five, where the terms begin in September, January and April). Parents of children born between 1 April 2009 and 31 August 2009 can defer entry to September 2014, the following school year, but in such a case would have to make a separate additional application in summer 2014 for a Year 1 place in September 2014.

Parents may also request that children attend part-time until they reach compulsory school age. In such cases parents should discuss detailed arrangements with the head teacher.

Early Admission

The governors will not consider applications for admission earlier than the academic year in which the child reaches the age of 5.

Treatment of Late Applications

Under normal circumstances, any applications that are received after the 15th January deadline will not be considered until all the previous applications have been dealt with. There may be exceptional circumstances whereby a late application will be considered alongside applications made by the deadline date. These exceptions would include, for example, a family moving from overseas into the area.

In Year applications

In year applications other than reception can be made at anytime. The number of places in each year group is 10. The governing body are the admitting authority and will assess each application based on the schools admissions policy and criteria. If there are any vacancies, a place will be offered to the child at the top of the waiting list. An application form is available from the school office. Please apply to the school directly.

The Governors of Little Milton School subscribe to the local authority in-year fair access protocol. Children to whom the protocol applies will be given priority in securing a place at the school.

Statement of Special Educational Needs

Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs naming Little Milton School will always be admitted above all criteria. Children with other special needs will be considered under the same criteria as all other children. The school has wheelchair access.

Oversubscription Admissions Criteria

If the Governors receive more applications than the agreed admissions number the following oversubscription criteria will be applied.

For the purposes of allocating places, the applications are grouped according to the ‘main criteria’ set out below. Applications in the lower numbered groups are given preference over those in the higher numbered groups. If an application meets the criteria for more than one group only the lower numbered group is taken into account

If necessary, applications are further prioritised, within each group, by applying the ‘tie break criteria’ in the order listed below.

Oversubscription Main Criteria

Criterion 1:Looked after children and children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order).

Criterion 2:Children living in Little Milton Parish(A map is available for inspection in the school office. A copy may also be obtained by post on request).

Criterion 3:Children with a sibling in attendance at the school at the time of application and whois expected still to be attending Little Milton School at the time of entry.

Criterion 4:Children of parents requesting a Church of England School where a parent attends a Church of England Church on at least a monthly basis, and has done so for at least 12 months prior to the application date. If you have recently moved to the area, attendance at a previous church will be aggregated with attendance at a new church

Criterion 5:Children who regularly attend the OrchardPreSchool, i.e. attend a minimum of three sessions per week.

Criterion 6:Children whose parents are members of a church in membership of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland, or the Evangelical Alliance, and request a church school, and where a parent attends church on at least a monthly basis, and hasdone so for at least 12 months prior to the application date.

Criterion 7:Children who live outside Little Milton Parish.

Oversubscription tie break criteria

Criterion A:Children living nearest to school as calculated by reference to the nearest designated public route as defined on the Directorate for Children, Young People and Families’ Geographic Information system. In the unlikely event where there is an identical measurement for two or more applicants, the school will use “random allocation” by the governors in line with local authority policy.

Admission of children from multiple births

Children of multiple births whose births fall either side of the admission number, and who meet the admissions criteria, would all be offered places at Little Milton School.

Please note it is essential for a Supplementary Information Form to be completed in order for an application to be considered under criteria 4 or 6. Governors cannot admit under these criteria without the supporting evidence. The form is available from the school and must be completed and returned with the CAPF form.

All applications will be treated equally, irrespective of need or ability.

Application for admission to a year group other than that indicated by the child’s age

Requests from parents for places outside a normal age group will be considered carefully, eg for those who have missed education due to ill health. Each case will be considered on its own merits and circumstances. However, cases will not normally be agreed without a consensus that to do so would be in the pupil’s interest. The governors will ask relevant professionals for their opinion on the case. Those refused places outside the normal age group will be informed of their statutory right to appeal.

Appeals procedure

If we cannot offer your child a place in school you have the statutory right of appeal to the Governors. Letters of appeal should be sent, addressed to the Chair of Governors, within 20 school days of receipt of the letter of refusal. An independent appeals panel will be set up by the Diocese to hear your appeal.

Continued Interest Lists

The county council acts as a ‘clearing house’ for applications to reception until the last day of term 6 in the year of entry for that year group. If places become available the school governing body, as the schools admitting authority, are responsible for allocating these places based on the schools admissions policy and criteria.

Any continued interest lists (waiting lists) will be maintained in order of over subscription based on the admissions criteria listed above. The date of receipt of application will have no bearing on the lists.

It is our policy not to reconsider applications within the same academic year, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Definitions
