PLEASE READ! VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

Dear Cheerleader and Parent:

Bartow High will be holding tryouts on April 19TH – 20th and 23rd – 25thin the Cheer practice room at Bartow High School.

Times are as follows:

  • Thursday, April 19th : 2:15 pm – 4:15 pm ALL current high school students

4:30 – 6:30 pm – ALL 8th grade students / incoming Freshmen

(All paperwork MUST be turned by Tuesday, 4/17. You will not be able to participate without a physical dated ON OR AFTER June 1st, 2017)

  • Friday, April 20th - EVALUATIONS ON STANDING TUMBLING & JUMPS

2:15 pm – 4:15 pm ALL current high school students

4:30 – 6:30 pm – ALL 8th grade students / incoming Freshmen

  • Monday, April 23rd – EVALUATIONS ON CHANT AND RUNNING TUMBLING

4:30 – 7:00 pm for EVERYONE

  • Tuesday, April 24th – EVALUATIONS ON CHEER

4:30 – 7:00 pm for EVERYONE

  • Wednesday, April 25th – FINAL EVALUATION (fight song and interview)

Practice room will open at 2:30 and tryouts will begin promptly at 3 pm. You will be given your tryout time on Monday, April 23rd. Be in front of the cheer room 15 minutes prior to your tryout time to stretch and warm up. Final evaluations will consist of the FIGHT SONG, an INTERVIEW, and ANYTHING THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE AGAIN FROM EARLIER IN THE WEEK.

  • Thursday, April 26th: Ice Cream Social and Fittings will start at 2:15 pm in the cafeteria.

***Teams will be announced at approximately 7 pm on Wednesday. If you make a squad, you will need to attend a uniform fitting on Thursday, April 26th at 2:15 pm in the practice room. We will also a MANDATORY parent meeting Thursday, April 26th at 6:00 pm in the BHS Media Center. Your first payment will be due at this time.***

Cheerleaders and Parents must be aware of the following requirements and expectations before trying out:

  • Cheerleaders must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • All previous cheerleading debts must be paid
  • Minimal absences/disciplinary infractions in school
  • Each cheerleader is responsible for raising or supplying the cost of camps, clothes, shoes, warm-ups, bags, bows, any cheerleading accessories needed, tumbling class fees and competition fees (competition team).
  • The average anticipated cost per cheerleader for 1 year is approximately $1,300.00.
  • Squad members will be required to participate in all fundraiser events and efforts. These will consist of, but are not limited to the following: selling signs for the football stadium, participating in cheer clinics, Powder Puff game and any other fundraiser throughout the year.

Cheerleading is a TEAM sport. Therefore, practice is MANDATORY. If practices are missed,team members may be dismissed from the squad. Cooperation and proper attitude are a requirement. Regular practice will be scheduled in advance so arrangements can be made around them. Summer practices will also be scheduled and mandatory. Cheerleading is year round and cheerleaders are required to participate in football/basketball games. If a cheerleader decides not to complete the season it will be looked upon as quitting. Tumbling classwill be held once a week during our regularly scheduled practices.

SUMMER CAMP STUNT CLINICS ARE REQUIRED. THE DATES ARE:

  • UCA MASTERS CAMP @ UCF (VARSITY) : June 26th-29th
  • CHEER EXPERTS CAMP @ BHS (BOTH SQUADS): July 9th-10th
  • UCA STUNT CAMP @ UCF (JV): July 19th-22nd
  • STUNT CLINIC @ BHS (VARSITY): July 24th-25th
  • STUNT CLINIC @ BHS (JV): July 26th-27th

What to wear/bring to tryouts:

  • T-shirt or athletic tank tops
  • Athletic shorts
  • Socks and athletic shoes (cheer shoes for flyers)
  • Hair pulled back and out of face
  • NO JEWELRY
  • Bring your own water and/or tape.

What to wear ON April 25th:

White Tryout Shirt (provided), royal blue soffe type shorts, orange bow (females)

Please come to tryouts GAME DAY READY on April 25th, including game day make-up and a bow for females and a clean,shaven look for males.

Bartow Cheerleader Contract

This is an abbreviated version of our Bartow Cheerleader Contract. Please read through all of the rules and expectations carefully. A more detailed version will be given to team members at the post selection meeting.

As a Bartow High School Cheerleader, I will abide by the following rules and expectations. If I fail to meet my expectations as a cheerleader, I understand and support the consequences set before me by any coach in the program.

  • I will attend every scheduled practice.
  • I will call my coachBEFORE practice if I have an EMERGENCY and can’t make practice.
  • I will sit out a game for missing any practice and will do extra conditioning.
  • I will know all material taught at practice and will perform my best at all times. I will work hard to improve my TEAM knowing we must work together to make a change.
  • I will help take out and put away cheer mats, poms and signs at every practice, game, competition and/or event.
  • I will keep grades and school as a top priority and maintain at least a2.0 GPA.
  • I will be in full practice wear and game wear when required. i will not lend out any bartow cheerleading attire to non-cheerleaders.
  • I will be on time to all cheerleading events and to school. i will not skip school.
  • I will be responsible for meeting all deadlines.
  • Cheering a game is my job. I will act accordingly and will not talk to fans or look/act in an unprofessional manner.
  • I will ride the bus to and from all away games unless prior arrangements are made and approved by a coach.
  • I will support all athletes, sports and clubs on our campus.
  • In order to protect my teammates, i will not wear any jewelry (even if it isn’t visible) while cheering.
  • I will stunt safely at all times and will FIGHT for any stunt I attempt. i will accept the consequences for any of my stunts that drop.
  • I will perform all conditioning set before me by my coach to the best of my ability.

I will perform alternative conditioning if necessary.

  • I will attend all tumbling practices and will achieve my tumbling goal for the season.
  • I will improve my cheerleading skills and successfully master any skills needed for competition.
