OVERVIEW/ANNOTATION:
This is a technology-based research project to gather information about a given disease or medical condition and to present that information in a slide showpresentation in the classroom. This health class lesson will encompass Career-Tech skills by preparing slide showslides with transitions, animations, and timing features. It will include a variety of input methods by utilizing a digital camera, scanner, CD-RW, and the Internet.
DAY 1
Receive your assigned disease or medical condition topic.
Go to the library media center to select and check out a book or books on your topic.
Gather information on your topic from the “Human Disease and Conditions” encyclopedia, Volume 1,2, and 3.
DAY 2
Class will meet in the computer lab.
Access the Alabama Virtual Library.
Gather information about your disease or medical condition.
Fill out the attached activity sheet with the information you have research from books, “Human Disease and Medical Conditions” encyclopedia, and the AVL.
Homework Assignment: Complete activity sheet.
DAY 3
Class will meet in the computer lab.
View a slide showdemonstration.
With teacher’s instructions work through designing a slide example.
DAY 3 continued
Begin to create your own slide showpresentation. Use the information written on your activity sheet. Make sure you follow the criteria for each slide given on the slide showinstruction handout.
Save frequently to diskette while working on your presentation and make a final save at the end of the class.
DAY 4
Class will meet in the computer lab.
Continue to work on slide showpresentation.
Include text, transitions, animations, and timing features.
View teacher’s demonstration on downloading a picture from the Internet.
Download a picture of your disease or medical condition by using instructions from the slide showinstruction sheet.
Save frequently while working on your presentation and make a final save at the end of the class.
DAY 5
Class will meet in the computer lab.
View the teacher’s demonstration on inserting clipart from slide show, inserting clipart from a CD-ROM, scanning text, and using a digital camera to input a picture onto slides.
Use the input methods demonstrated to input clipart, text, and pictures.
Save frequently while working on your presentation and make a final save at the end of the class.
DAY 6
Class will meet in the computer lab.
Preview the slide show and make any corrections necessary.
Save frequently while working on your presentation and make a final save at the end of the class.
DAY 6 continued
Rehearse the slide show and prepare for the class presentation.
Receive your assignment for the class presentation.
On the following days class will meet in the regular classroom for the presentations. The number of presentations given during a class period will determine the number of days to complete this project. Students will observe a demonstration on how to connect a multimedia projector to a computer.
