JROTC UNIT CHALLENGE RESOLUTION REPORT
THE CHALLENGE:(Define the problem)
The School Culture sometimes negatively affects JROTC Program
IMPACT(S) OF THE PROBLEM:
- Retention of quality cadets from year to year.
- Can destroy the confidence, motivation, and spirit of JROTC students.
CAUSE(S) OF THE PROBLEM:
1.Possible lack of school support (Financial, space, and equipment). Athletic programs take priority,
2.Counselors use JROTC Program as a Dumping Ground for disciplined riddled students.
3.School teachers/administrators do not fully understand the intent, mission, or goals of JROTC program.
4.Students sometimes have too many options of clubs, organizations or sports programs to choose from.
5.Parents, students, and teachers view JROTC as a behavior modification program for troubled students.
6.JROTC Cadets are ridiculed from non-JROTC students about their decision to joining. This is especially true on Uniform Days.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS/COURSES OF ACTION :(Forum developed and recommended)
- Educate school counselors, teachers and administrators about the true mission, intent, and goals of JROTC.
- Realign the JROTC program curriculum to meet the academic needs of the school. For example, 22 college credits for JROTC students from Colorado State University. This will demonstrate true academic value to students, counselors, parents, and school administrators.
- Encourage cadets to limit their participation in extracurricular school activities and programs. Limit themselves to 2 per semester. Actively create partnerships with other school coaches.
- Set a negotiable practice schedule for cadets who participate in other extracurricular activities.
