NJASBO 2011/2012 President Anthony Dragona and Executive Director John Donahue surprised Tom Egan, Jr. with the announcement that he was the 2012 School Business Official of the year when they arrived at a Cinnaminson School District administrators meeting this past spring.

John and Tony were delighted to announce to the bemused, blushing and somewhat confused Egan the reason for the unexpected visit.

“Tom, you're a wonderful gentleman and well respected by your colleagues," said John."We could not be more happy than to have you represent our profession as NJASBO's 2012 School Business Administrator of the Year. Congratulations!”

"I had no idea that I had won the award, so was completely caught off guard by John's and Tony's visit," recounts Tom. "It was terrific to share in the excitement with my colleagues and support staff in the district."

Tom has served as Cinnaminson's board secretary/business administrator since March 1999. Before joining the district, he served for four years as assistant school business administrator for the Lower Camden County Regional School District. While with Lower Camden County, Tom received the Association for School Business Officials International Certificate of Excellence in financial reporting for fiscal years ending June 30, 1996 and 1997.

A graduate of Rutgers University with a bachelor of arts in business administration, Tom is a Certified Public Accountant, (CPA) a Public School Accountant (PSA) and a Qualified Purchasing Agent (QPA). He began his career in the private sector and previously, was a supervisor accountant with the CPA firm, Bowman and Company LLP.

In addition to being a member of NJASBO, Tom is active with the Burlington County ASBO, where he served as president from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2010. He also is a member of the board of trustees for the School Alliance Insurance Fund, the Association of School Business Officials International, New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Tom and wife Mary, live in Medford Lakes with their three children: Stephen, Theresa, and Tommy.
