February 8, 2009

Thanks to all those who were so good to sign up for our blood mobile for the benefit of Children’s Hospital. I’m sure that your “gift” has been a big help to those who are experiencing the anxiety of a child who is ill.

Just another reminder of our “follow up” meeting to continue the work of our parish pulse project that was undertaken one year ago. As you might recall, we have been trying to look at our parish in a realistic light—to see the things that are going well; to improve areas that need growth; and to look a bit “down the road” to plan wisely for our future.

Last year we asked people in the parish to invite neighbors and friends to their homes so we could hear from people who are actively involved in parish life as well as those people who might be more “on the margins”. We had well over 200 people participate.

After the meetings were concluded—a report was issued about our findings.

One suggestion was to have a parish wide meeting. At this meeting we would try to take a look at our findings; report on some initiatives to address some of the issues that were raised; and to hear some additional thoughts and reflections that parish members might have to offer. I will also try to give a bit of my vision for what I see happening in the parish now, as well as what direction I hope we might head for in the future. Members of the parish staff will also be present to hear your thoughts and speak a bit about their contributions to parish life.

The meetings will be held on Wednesday, March 11. One meeting will be held following the 9am Mass. The meeting will be repeated at 7:30 that evening.

I know that life is busy for all of us, but I do hope that you can set that date aside and plan to be with us. In our busy lives we sometimes don’t slow down enough to hear from one another and to plan as much as possible for our future. Sometimes we only seem to slow down in a crisis, and as we all know, our best planning is not done in the face of a problem or difficulty.

Look for additional information in the bulletins of the next few weeks as we approach March 11.
