A “Debate” type essay – “Discuss…” “Assess the case for…”

–  need to provide arguments for both sides

–  How many arguments?

–  Structure - paired or 1st ½ - 2nd ½?

–  What does “more often” mean here?

-  INTRO – needs to define and then preview arguments.

-  Arguments need to be important and distinct – planning!

-  Need each argument to give clear explanation of why it is a reason for greater use of refs, or a reason against.

+ May need to explain why something is good/bad!

-  Need to support each argument with factual material/examples

o  From refs held in UK

o  From refs held elsewhere

o  From refs promised in UK but not held

How does this example support my pt? – explain!

-  Higher level thinking for top analysis marks:

o  Judgement in the Conclusion
