1.0  INTRODUCTION

The development is going to be located on peponi road. This is a high end residential area whose occupants need and appreciate the need for a high life services. It’s generally well serviced in terms of infrastructure and it’s a home to both home owners as well as land lords.

The site has a steep slope and a river on the lower side. Any development that is developed has to appreciate the natural sounds made by birds on the trees as well as the slope.

Existing available materials

It might be necessary to reuse some of the materials that had been previously used for this colonial structure. The structure is in good order and so most of the materials may be reused:

·  Roman tiles

·  Doors may be used for the gate house, library and the gym

·  Fabricated windows

·  Masonry stones

·  Most of the timber may be used as form work for the new development

The Location

Location of the Site and Its Neighborhood

·  The site is located along Peponi Rod Nairobi and is fairly flat and needs no underground are required.

·  It sits on a prime land of 0.15 hectares.

·  It is served by a single road on the north that is going to be used for access purposes.

Westland’s peponi road is predominantly a residential zone. To maintain the prestige of the area, high end residential units are built.

5.0 DETAILED DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

The following are general requirements that should be given preference when it comes to this particular design concept.

1.0  Ventilation

  • Open cross ventilation OR
  • Clean filtered air supply in all spaces
  • Foul air extract system
  • Mechanical ventilation in toilets

2.0  Lighting

  • Primarily rely on Natural lighting in the day
  • Emergency lights to be provided
  • Artificial light to supplement day lighting where necessary

4.0  Walls, floors and Ceilings

  • External Walls – Adequate Thermal insulation
