1) Project Description. Your project, purpose, and goal(s). Be as specific and concrete as you can. If you think your project will not be completed by April 27, explain here.
I am going to create a children's book about cancer to help kids understand what it is and what it is like to go through treatment. I will write the story, illustrate it, and get it published through an online company that does small batch book publishing. I will also get sponsors who can have their names and logos in the book. The sponsorship will help pay for the books. I will then see if I can go to schools and read the books to kids.
2) A mentor and/or a contact person or persons who will verify hours. This person should not be under 25 years of age.
Name: Ken Poirier
Relationship to me: Friend of my mom's
Phone number/e-mail: 503 872-2345 kenneth.p@email
Mentor’s area of expertise or reason why you don’t need a mentor: Ken is a freelance graphic designer who has independently published three children's books.

3) Project Task Analysis. List at least five steps needed to complete the project:
1. Determine which online publisher is best for a low cost.
2. Write the story.
3. Have several adults or teachers review my story.
4. Plan out or storyboard the illustrations; decide what kind of medium to use.
5. Construct the story pages.
6. Upload the pages to print one prototype of the book.
7. Use the prototype to show sponsors; contact potential sponsors such as hospitals or local small businesses.
8. Order some of the books to be printed.
4) Final Product. What will you show your board?
I will take pictures as I create the book and will show this process in my powerpoint. I will also show them the final book.
5) What is your previous experience in this area?
I have written stories before, but I have never tried to get any of my work published in a finished form.
6) Why is this project a challenge for you? What else do you want the Advisory Board to understand about your project?
I have never tried to write and illustrate a story. I also have never tried to create a publishable book. This project will be a "stretch" for me because I will have to create a product that a sponsor will want their name on. Also, contacting sponsors to get funding will be a challenge as I am very shy and have not done this kind of thing before.
7) How will you preserve the integrity of your research paper and project?
I understand that I can only document hours that I actually work on this project. I will not falsify any records, signatures, or anything else related to my project.
8) Extra notebooks, required meetings, paperwork, or other requirements for your kind of project:
None. (student’s number)
