POSITION SUMMARY:

The VP Patient Care Services has 24-hour responsibility and accountability for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating nursing services across the health care continuum by working with other administrative team members to provide administrative direction and oversight. The VP exercises final authority over all associates providing nursing care, regardless of reporting structure, within (facility name).

The VP also provides administrative direction and oversight to the departments of (list departments.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Integration of Nursing Services with all hospital services and functions.

2. Authority and responsibility for developing organization-wide patient care programs, policies, and procedures that describe how patients’ nursing care needs or needs of patient populations receiving nursing care treatment and services (are assessed, evaluated, and met) and, for establishing standards of nursing practice and standards of care.

3. Develops and implements the organization’s plans for providing nursing care, treatment and services to patients requiring nursing care, treatment and services.

4. Participates with governing body, management, medical staff, and clinical leaders in the (facilities name) decision-making structures and processes.

5. Provides sufficient number of qualified and competent staff to provide patient care and services.

6. Establishes standards for qualifications and competence of staff who provide nursing services and patient care services for designated departments.

7. Implements an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of care, treatment and services delivered to patients

8. Assures that appropriate orientation, in-service training, and continuing education are provided.

9.  Assures effective and efficient financial utilization of resources and capital utilization; recommends space and other allocation of resources.

10.  Fosters environment to achieve high associate satisfaction and retention of staff.
