It is my pleasure to report to the 25th ANNUAL MEETING OF ANZELA ON BEHALF OF THEVICTORIAN CHAPTER.

Members of the Chapter have been busy this year with Chapter activities and presentations.

Members attended the Queensland Conference in 2015 and thoroughly enjoyed catching up and hearing the presentations. Thanks to members of the Queensland Chapter for the work in hosting this conference.

MEETINGS

The Chapter met on 3 occasions and held discussions about the future of our Chapter.

September 2016-the pre- Conference meeting was held on 1st September.

IMPORTANT MILESTONES

  • Since its first meeting in 1991-the Victorian Chapter has sought new ways to communicate the law as it applies to education. Much has changed over the years, however members have been prominent and presented at Seminars organised by Law Sense and Legal Wise.
  • The Dr Ann shorten prize for 2016 was awarded to Dr Shiralee Peod for her thesis entitled-

Adjustments to Curriculum for Australian school aged students with disabilities-What’s reasonable?

Congratulation Shiralee.

Shiralee is currently a lecturer at The University of Melbourne Graduate School of Education.

  • Important linkages have commenced with teacher organisations. Firstly with the AEU, where we are planning support for teachers and principals. Secondly with the APF and the Seminar series organised by Law Sense.
  • Conference award in 2016 was made to Jason Newman to enable him to attend the Conference in Auckland and to present a paper at the Conference.
  • Finally I completed my PhD and will graduate from Monash University on 28 October.

FINANCE

The financial position of the Victorian Chapter continues to remain in a healthy state. The Audit was undertaken by Rundles Accountants of Melbourne. This has been forwarded the national board for record purposes. Thank you to Leanne Newson who continues to work tirelessly to keep our records up to date.

APPRECIATION

The Victorian chapter has two National Board members, namely Katharine O ‘Donnell ( Victorian member from Tasmania ) and Jason Newman from Melbourne. We thank them both for the time and effort devoted to these duties.

FUTURE DIRECTION

The Victorian Chapter continues to bring Education Law to the teachers and Principals of Victoria.

As the society changes, decisions affecting the lives of students, parents and teachers are to focus of the work we do.

Chapter members will continue to generate interest via seminars, and meetings.

Law Sense will continue to work closely with the Victorian Chapter in order to expand the topic relevant to our community.

At this conference Chapter members hope to learn new ways to communicate with potential members and the community.

The chapter will hold its Planning meeting in mid -January 2017.
