1.  Briefly describe your garden project including its major goals. Please include a description of activities and the location of the garden (for example, Jefferson Elementary School). (150 words or less)

The Guelph garden club has taken care of the flowerbed at the Guelph Community Center for over 30 years. They would like to share their expertise with the James River 4h Club. This joint effort would benefit the whole community and the surrounding area that utilizes the Guelph Community Center for a multitude of county activities held throughout the year.

2.  How will your project make a difference to its children? (150 words or less)

The children would have hands on experience planting and maintaining the Community Garden. The Garden Club would guide the willing learners through preparing, planting, watering and maintaining the gardens. They would also like to develop a camping area that would be an income producing endeavor for the community.

3.  How will your project make a difference in your community? (150 words or less)

Besides beautifying the town, both groups would develop a sense of pride for the area. The community center is the former school and by helping maintain the facility6, a piece of history is also being maintained. Volunteers have maintained the building since the school closed 30 years ago.

4.  Please estimate the number of participants directly involved in the project:

Young children (3–12 years old): 25

Teens (13–17 years old): 10

Adults: 20

5.  Briefly list any partners (such as 4-H, FFA, school, church, garden center, parks department) that are involved. Briefly describe their roles in the project. Be very brief.

(to be completed by local NDSU educator)
Please describe your Extension office’s involvement in this garden program (recruiting youth, teaching, coordinating volunteers, providing meeting space). (150 words or less)
They discussed this project with the office. I believe it will be an all-summer project teaching the 4H club members how to plant and then care for the flowers.
This club is full of many young members with the eldest youth being 11. This project will be great for them and this small community.
I support this project and will work with the coordinator to ensure a positive educational experience for the youth.
