Job Title: / Coed Lleol Project Officer

Hours of Work: / Treherbert - 1 day per week
Fixed term contract until September 2014, continued subject to funding
Responsible to: / Coed Lleol Partnership Coordinator / Assistant Coordinator
Responsible for: / Local staff, contractors and volunteers involved in delivering woodland activities.
Job Purpose:
  1. Tocoordinate the ‘Actif Woods Wales’ programme of woodland health activities in the local project area.
  2. To disseminate expertise and knowledge among Actif Woods Leaders and stakeholders through coordinating project seminars, training events and conferences.
  3. To raise the profile of Actif Woods Wales through project publicity, promotion and outreach including website/social media publicity for the local area.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities:
  • Develop partnerships with key local organisations involved in community development, health & wellbeing and woodland activities (Communities First, NHS and GP referrals scheme, mental health charities, woodland owners, Forestry Commission, woodland activity providers, environmental organisations, gym instructors etc)
  • Work with Coed Lleol staff to identify key target groups of people to participate in woodland health activities in the local community.
  • Develop and manage woodland activity programmes in your location for people with chronic health conditions, including coordination of leaders and contractors; programme design and some delivery, communication with woodland leaders over permissions, collection of evaluation data etc.
  • Co-ordinate sourcing referrals onto woodland health activity programmes, especially through support groups and target organisations.
  • Work with local leaders and Coed Lleol staff to complete monitoring and evaluation forms and procedures
  • To take responsibility for promoting the project locally including press articles, online promotion, and presence at local events.
  • To organise stakeholder planning meetings, training workshops and project seminars held locally.
  • To attend staff meetings in Machynlleth, project seminars in locations across Wales, and Coed Lleol steering group meetings.
  • Take responsibility for own day-to-day office administration and answering queries.
  • To represent Coed Lleol at local events, including giving presentations.
  • Carry out any other similar duties as can reasonably be required of the post.

Person specification:

Essential / Desirable
Previous experience of working in a similar project environment. / A relevant degree and/or professional qualification.
A proven interest in woodland/outdoor activities for health & wellbeing. / Prior experience of designing & running outdoor woodland-based activities for adults.
Good knowledge of the local region, including key contacts in the woodland, health & community development sector. / Previous experience of working locally in the woodland, health or community development sector.
Competence with IT, a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and email systems. / Experience of promoting and encouraging participation in events & activities.
Good interpersonal and networking skills. / An understanding of monitoring and evaluation procedures for health activities.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; self-starting and proactive. / Experience of promotion and developing publicity materials.
Availability to travel work flexibly depending on work requirements. / Current driving licence and own car insured for work use.
Previous experience of managing own office administration systems. / Welsh speaker or learner (if relevant in local area).
First Aid at Work qualification.
