The Lullaby Trust provides expert advice on safer sleep for babies, supports bereaved families and raises awareness on sudden infant death. SIDS, or ‘cot death’ as it is often known, is the biggest cause of death in babies over one month old.In England and Wales, about 600 babies die unexpectedly annually and the deaths are referred to the coroner; of these tragic deaths about 270 remain unexplained or only partially explained after post-mortem examination.
The successful candidate will be joining The Lullaby Trust at an exciting stage in the charity’s development. Having re-named and re-launched the charity in2013 to ensure we are in the best placed position to achieve our objectivesof reducing sudden infant deaths we are now seeking an outstanding individual to lead the Fundraising teamand maximise our potential.
Leading the organisation’s individual giving, trusts, corporate and major giving programme the role is pivotal in ensuring a collaborative working environment develops and delivers results. The Head of Fundraising plays an active partwithin the senior management teamandholds a key positionwithin the organisation,acting as an ambassador at all times.
As a motivational leader and experienced fundraiser the successful candidate will manage a successful and committed teamof six. You will be a confident and driven representative of the organisation. Working flexibly to meet a number of priorities and hit income targets you will need to show excellent organisational and communication skills.
4. Main duties (brief description)
Duties/Responsibilities / Level of responsibility

  1. Lead and motivate the fundraising team to generate revenue required to achieve wider charitable objectives, funding new projects as well as existing work
  2. Direct the fundraising strategy and the delivery and performance of the fundraising team
Directly line manage three members of the fundraising team overseeingperformance, training requirements and appraisals
Lead on the development and implementation of new and existing income streams to maximise all opportunities
Review and develop Individual Giving, Regular Giving and Legacy income streams to increase income and improve analysis and retention
Provide leadership, guidance and direction for trusts, corporate and major giving fundraising to ensure all income opportunities are maximised
Support the Deputy Head of Fundraising in overseeing the organisation’s Events and Community programme
Work closely with the Head of Finance to set budgets and forecasts and monitor income and expenditure streams
Represent the charity as required, being ready to speak about the charity and its work
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the charity’s activities and be able to communicate key aspects to existing and potential supporters
Work closely with senior Trustees and key supporters of the charity
Actively contribute to the corporate leadership of the charity as a member of the Senior Management Team
Work closely with the Head of Communications to develop a PR strategy to support fundraising goals
Actively report and participate in Finance and Resources Committee and Sales Committee meetings
Undertake any other duties of a compatible nature as may be required from time to time by the Chief Executive / D

Competencies required:
A leader and team-player who can deliver and inspire others with energy and a genuine enthusiasm to grow fundraising income
Proven ability to shape and deliver a fundraising strategy as part of the overall thinking of the charity
Analytical and creative thinker able to analyse fundraising costs, income and ratios in detail and communicate this to senior colleagues and trustees
Proven track record of achieving fundraised income against agreed financial targets
Experience in setting and controlling budgets and forecasts
Experience of developing individual giving and / or regular giving income
Experience of planning and delivering Communications, PR and marketing campaigns
Able to multi-task across a range of projects and deliver to demanding timetables while pursuing emerging fundraising opportunities
Proven track record of line managing fundraising staff and volunteers
Adept at listening to the views of a range of key stakeholders to inform plans
Ability to think strategically to achieve fundraising objectives and the wider goals of the organisation
Ability to represent The Lullaby Trust at internal and external events and functions
Experience of liaising with senior staff, trustees and key supporters
Ability to use own initiative, manage time effectively and to prioritise tasks
Ability to deal sensitively with bereaved parents who contribute to fundraising initiatives

Any particular aptitude/skill required:
Good working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook
Good working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge
Ability to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels both in writing and face to face to inspire, influence, persuade and negotiate
Ability to understand and interpret complex information about Lullaby Trust activities and projects and present them in a clear, succinct and persuasive manner.
Ability to use a fundraising database to record information and analyse and manipulate data

6. Special terms
Working in different locations: / AttendingLullaby Trust events outside of the office as and when required, this may include some evening and weekend work. Time Off In Lieu will be given when this occurs.
