Homerton Transitional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (HTNRU)

Introduction: Homerton is an innovative and friendly FoundationHospital based in the East London borough of Hackney. We provide general hospital services to Hackney and the City of London, as well as a variety of specialist care services including obstetrics and neonatologyand neuro-rehabilitation across East London and beyond.

Homerton Transitional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (HTNRU):

The HTNRU aims to provide episodes of inpatient neuro-rehabilitation or disability management to help patients develop greater independence when living within the community.

HTNRU can provide occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, neuro-psychology and specialist nursing. Medical support is provided by a local GP and monthly ward round by a consultant neurologist.

Patients admitted to the unit should have a neurological condition and identified therapy goals which are achievable within a 6 – 8 week admission.

Transport Information:

HTNRU is based at Mary Seacole Nursing Home, Nuttall Street, London, N1 5LZ.

There is very little opportunity for parking and we would advise you to come via public transport.

Haggerston or Hoxton London Overground Stations are a very similar distance away from the Nursing Home at around 650 metres. The closest public transport links are provided by Bus Stops KM and KC on Kingsland Road, signposted for St Leonard’s Hospital. Routes 67, 149, 242, 243 and 394 between Stoke Newington and Hackney Central in one direction or Liverpool Street, Aldgate and Old Street in the other direction travel along this route.

Uniform Policy: Youmay wear awhite Polo Shirt or Tunic with navy blue trousers. ‘Smart’ trainers or black shoes are permitted. Your University ID badge must be clearly displayed at all times.

Please do NOT travel with your uniform visible.

Pre-placement reading: You will be expected to have a basic knowledge of:

  • Subjective and Objective assessment of a neurological patient
  • Motor control theories
  • Normal movement
  • Neurological conditions including stroke and traumatic brain injury.

First day reporting instructions: On your 1st day please report tothe Mary Seacole Nursing home reception for 8.30am. If you are sick or going to be late you must ring the department to let us know.
