Summary
Dogs Trust is the largest dog-welfare organisation in the UK. We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome nearly 17,000 stray and abandoned dogs a year at our 21 rehoming centres across the UK and Ireland. We are absolutely determined to STOP healthy dogs being put to sleep in the UK and beyond. We never destroy a healthy dog in our care.
The Head of Donor Recruitment will play a crucial role in developing and delivering strategies to achieve short-and long-term fundraising targets. Managing a team of 7 and several external agency partnerships, the post holder will take responsibility for recruiting supporters across all channels and managing the charity’s sponsor dog programme.
The Head of Donor Recruitment will manage a significant budget to maximize supporter recruitment across all potential channels & techniques; currently including face to face, DRTV,digital press, direct mail, inserts, internetand telephone.
The Head of Donor Recruitment will develop, implement and monitor the recruitment of supporters to achieve donor numbers and income targets as set by the Marketing Director including dog sponsors, members, direct debit donors and cash donors.
Duties
  • Working to Dogs Trust strategy,to develop plans for the recruitment and retention of dog sponsors and committed givers.
  • Responsible for the day to day management of all donor recruitment activity and development, ensuring the progress of the strategy is monitored.
  • Forecast and manage donor recruitment income and expenditure budgets, ensuring records are maintained and updated (accurately and consistently) to enable income reporting and analysis of activity
  • Provide and maintain regular reportsas required to the Marketing Director.
  • Commission, manage and review theagencies responsible for producing work related to the programme; ensuring that targets are achieved and all Dogs Trust and Fundraising Code requirements are maintained.
  • Manage the performance and professional development of direct reports in the Donor Recruitment Team.

  • Develop and maintain the Sponsor Dog programme to maximise supporter engagement with the scheme.
  • Helps to monitor that all correspondence and other fulfillment work managed in-house is carried out to agreed customer service standards.
  • Undertakes research, where appropriate, to support donor recruitment activities.
  • Liaises with the Head of Donor Management, Head of Digital and other teams with regard to the Marketing Department’s IT requirement.
  • Manage external agencies to identifyand develops opportunities for new product and channel development.
  • Represents Dogs Trust to key audiences where appropriate.
  • Represents Dogs Trust to the media on matters related to donor recruitment activity.
  • Ensures that all work is consistent with Dogs Trust’s values and is conducted with respect to the relevant law and codes of practice.
  • To contribute to and provide regular updates across the organisation to ensure all donor recruitment activity is embedded across the organisation and is aligned with the wider plans, objectives and codes of practice of Dogs Trust

Person Specification
Essential:
  • A significant track record in marketing and a proven track record of developing and delivering plans, managing teams and agencies to deliver on time and to target.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining key relationships with external agencies and relevant contacts over a sustained period of time, and a thorough understanding of how charitable donor recruitment operates.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of line managing direct reports to deliver excellent work and supporting their professional development.
  • Articulate, persuasive and has gravitas with all audiences, including those at the highest level both within the organisation and outside of it.
  • Highly numerate with demonstrable experience of preparing and managing budgets.
  • Good organisation skills and competent in the use of Word, Excel and databases.
  • Accustomed to working to targets and deadlines.
  • An inspiring leader, who has previous experience of developing the skills and confidence of their team.
  • A dedicated team worker, but also able to work on own initiative.
  • A commitment to the aims and values of Dogs Trust.
