Infection Prevention & Control Meeting – 16th January 2018

Present: Dr Hayton –IPC Lead, Jane Marchant - Lead Nurse, Liz Gohery - Admin

The minutes of the last meeting were agreed.

ACTION POINTS

  1. Legionella/Water checks -

All checks continue to be monitored regularly.

A recent inspection revealed Room 27 had no hot water. Plumber informed.

  1. IPC Training –

Belinda theCCG IPC Lead (Clinical Commissioning Group Infection Prevention and Control Lead),successfully conducted the 3 yearlymandatory trainingon 14th September 2017. Cascade training has been followed up and forwarded to all staff members.

Jane is to take over staff hand hygiene training and Dr Hayton will conduct the necessary tuition on this. A date for this will be arranged between themselves. Sheila is to be requested to produce a monthly hand-washing hygiene record.

New employees, Pippa, Gabrielle and Laura require their mandatory training.

  1. Auditon prescribing of sharps bins–

Results on this audit were given at a Monday meeting. It was agreed that all patients with a sharps device should have a sharps bin on their repeat prescription.

Dr Hayton is to discuss with Penny (prescriptions clerk) on how best to organise this.

  1. CleanSlate Cleaners –

Trojan Cleaners have been renamed to CleanSlate Cleaners. Neil Paterson continues to review thecleaning contract together with setting up a deep cleaning schedule. Dr Hayton will amend the IPC Policy to reflect the changes.

  1. Healthcare Acquired Infections -

No reported HCAI’s this quarter.

  1. Renovations–

The repairs have been made good following the renovations which damaged Dr Hayton’s Room. Neil Paterson continues to review the outstanding renovations for Girton Dispensary and the Staff Room.

Toys –

Recent kind donation of toys for waiting room. IPC policy not to allow toys as there is no regular reliable cleaning schedule. This decision was reviewed and upheld. Dr Hayton is to discuss with SJJ what to do with the recently donated toy.

DMH will conduct one of the CCG-IPC-recommended audits of IPC procedures e.g. waste management.
