GUIDELINE FOR DETERMINING VIRGINIA
BETA SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
- The applicant must:
- be a 12th grade member of the Beta Club
- be present at the convention
- complete a TYPED application form;
- There will be at most one applicant per school.
- The applicant will be required to give information in for areas: achievement, service activities, leadership, and need.
- One letter of recommendation MUST accompany the application form. It may be write by the principal, guidance counselor, or Beta sponsor. The Principal, Guidance Counselor, or Beta Sponsor must sign the application form. In the letter or recommendation, use only the first name of the candidate; also do not mention the name of your school, city, or town. If no letter of recommendation is received, the application will be discarded.
- Six semifinals will be chosen by a committee consisting of: Virginia Council Chairman, Council member, State Sponsor, State Sponsor Elect, and student (a student officer if not applying for the scholarship). Each committee member will rank each applicant in each of the four areas from 1 to n (n= number or applicants). The six candidates with the lowest total scores will be the semifinalists.
- In 2015, three $500 scholarships will be given. The recipients of the scholarships will be determined by a panel of three judges consisting of the Vice- Chairman of the Virginia Council and two sponsors appointed by the Council Chairman. The judges will determine the winners after interview each semifinalist.
- Incomplete applications or those postmarked after the requested date will be disregarded.
- Periodically, the Virginia Beta Club may be able to offer an additional $500 scholarship/ scholarships from outside sources (college/university sponsored, business sponsored, etc.) To be eligible for these scholarships, students must meet the requirements for Virginia Beta Scholarship as well as any additional stipulations made by the sponsoring organization.
For a student to be considered for the Virginia Beta Scholarship, the applications and all requested information must be MAILED BY CERTIFIED MAIL-RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED POSTMARKED BY JANUARY 26, 2015 TO:
