SCOPE

The post holder will provide assistance and support for staff and learners within the department or specific vocational area in the effective day to day running of the college. You will work with full and part time students, lecturers, the Yard Manager and the Team Leader. You will also carry out practical instruction, support and supervise the training and assessment.

You will also ensure the needs of our students come first and that every learner will be provided with opportunities to achieve their full potential within a safe, stimulating and supportive environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY TASKS:

  1. Support the delivery of the practical and academic curricula to students taking account of inputs from the teaching team, using appropriate techniques to ensure high standards, high retention and high success.
  1. To act as a support to students, working on a one to one basis or with groups,recording and monitoring student attendance and progress as directed. Work with lecturers to identify and support those students at risk of non-completion of their programme.
  1. Prepare appropriate materials and practical exercises in line with the syllabus and in conjunction with others, and support the section’s development of programmes.
  1. To act as a subject area specialist working with and supporting the delivery, assessment, and curriculum course / course-subject group.
  1. To ensure horses are exercised appropriately and suitable for the use in student lessons working closely with the Yard Manager.
  1. To act as an Assessor within the subject area and undertake assessment in line with Awarding Body and College requirements.
  1. Set and record programme assessments and achievement as required.
  1. Attend and take an active part in programme team meetings.
  1. Maintain student welfare and discipline, providing guidance and counselling when required and in consultation with Student Services, including liaison with parents and other sponsors.
  1. Support the marketing, recruitment, induction and assessment of students across the range on programmes as required.
  1. Carry out some duties in the evenings and weekends.
  1. Support the curriculum and commercial activity to ensure the resources are fully utilised and are of a high standard.
  1. Carry out minor maintenance to ensure resources are fit for purpose.
  1. Liaise with Equestrian Centre Team to ensure the appropriate provision of materials and resources are suitable and available when needed.
  1. Maintain student registers and absence reports in line with College requirements and comply with other administrative procedures and College regulations.
  1. Undertake Continuous Professional Development relevant to the role.
  1. To undertake such other duties and meet the responsibilities as identified in the College’s Health and Safety Policy.

Person Specification

ESSENTIALS / DESIRABLES
  • BHS Assistant Instructor (AI)
  • PTLLS or equivalent of willingness to achieve this with 12 months
  • Level 2 Literacy & Numeracy
  • ITskills to a good standard
  • Practical vocational experience in an appropriate environment
  • An appropriate vocational qualification at level 3
  • Assessors qualifications e.g. A1
  • Appropriate vocational certificates of competence (e.g NPTC, LANTRA, BHS)
  • Demonstrable CPD relevant to the post
  • Knowledge of appropriate Health and Safety requirements and legislation
  • A commitment to the promotion of equality, diversity and sustainability
  • Full driving licence and personal transport
  • Proven ability to work in a team

  • Certificate in Education / PGCE / CTLLS / DTLLS or equivalent
