Welcome to Spanish 1
The Spanish 1 course is designed to develop and improve communication skills in Spanish while reading, listening, speaking, and writing in Spanish. The course will be conducted in Spanish with support in English. The goal of this class is for the students to be able to integrate their skills in order to express themselves in a variety of styles using different strategies for different audiences, as well as to become better acquainted with the Hispanic culture. This will be accomplished through the use of authentic conversations, discussions, lectures, oral presentations, letters, instructions, Internet articles, literature, etc.
Course Objectives
- Comprehend the general meaning of simple directions spoken in Spanish and respond appropriately.
- Comprehend and respond appropriately, through oral and written work, to questions and statements inSpanish based on familiar vocabulary and structures.
- Write simple paragraphs and dialogs.
- Comprehend and use basic grammatical concepts.
- Engage and respond appropriately in authentic communicative tasks.
- Show a better understanding of the culture in Spanish speaking countries.
Expected Behavior
- Be prepared, on your assigned seat, and ready to start when the bell rings.
- Begin working on the Warm up immediately after the bell rings.
- Do not distract other students if you arrive late.
- Respect your peers, bring a positive attitude, and use appropriate language.
- Follow directions and raise your hand before speaking.
- Minimized side conversations unless working in groups.
- Keep classroom clean. Do not let your desk touch or scratch the wall.
- Stay on you seat, engaged, and paying attention.
- Cell phones are not allowed unless for academic purposes.
- Academic honesty is essential.
Grading Policy
I will grade all assignments according to Nova Academy Early College High School grading policy. Total points will be accumulated for all evaluated efforts in this class rather than having letter grades per each effort.
The grading scale is as follows:
A 90-100% Student showed mastery of content.
B 80-89%Student completedskillful work.
C 70-79% Student completed work with some errors and omissions.
F 1-69% Student did not complete proficient work.
Formal Assessments will account for 60% of a student’s grade
(Chapter Tests, unit tests, quizzes, large projects, formal essays, etc.)
Informal Assessments will account for 30% of a student’s grade
(Practice, warm ups, class participation, exit tickets, drafts, class work, etc)
Final Exam will account for 10% of a student’s formal evaluation grade.
Make up/ Late Work Policy
Missing assignments can be turned in up to 14 days late, up to the date of the final exam. However, unless you have an excused absence,you will only receive up to 75% credit. Assignments turnedin more than 14 days late will not be accepted unless previously approved by your teacher.
