Light Equipment Operator TW0178
· Operates vehicle/equipment driven on the road or road allowance for a variety of functions including transporting materials, equipment and/or personnel to various sites.
· Operates any automobile, small truck, equipment or combination thereof up to 11,000 kg, with towed equipment not exceeding 4,600 kg.
· Operates vehicles/equipment such as but not limited to: cars, light duty trucks or vans with trailer and/or attachments, sidewalk vacuums, ploughs or sweepers with attachments, skid steers with or without attachments, (driven/used on the road between locations) forklifts, farm tractors, tractor loaders with attachments, grass cutting equipment that is self propelled, multi-decked, (driven on the road between locations with cutting widths of more than 4 feet and less than 12 feet in width).
· Loads and unloads vehicles/equipment of various materials.
· Operates mechanical equipment attached to vehicles/equipment.
· Performs Daily Pre-Trip Inspection Report (Circle Check); identifies and reports vehicle and equipment malfunctions; performs minor non mechanical repairs to equipment; maintains vehicle and equipment in a clean and tidy condition.
· Performs other duties at this wage grade level or lower such as labouring type duties, maintenance and cleaning activities when not operating assigned vehicle or equipment.
· Available for snow shoveling/plowing and other winter maintenance activities, including the operating of various pieces of winter maintenance equipment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
· Completes reports (e.g., Driver’s Collision/Incident Report) related to assigned duties and responsibilities.
· Assists with traffic control as required.
· Performs work in a safe, efficient and courteous manner.
Key Qualifications:
· Ability to operate various vehicles and equipment up to 11,000kg.
· Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License and must have or shall be required to obtain required City permit for assigned vehicle(s) and equipment(s).
· Must possess and be able to maintain as appropriate, any valid Province of Ontario requirements to operate mechanized equipment.
· Must be familiar with requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations for the safe performance of his/her duties and responsibilities or capable of obtaining familiarity of same.
· May be required to do shift work in conformance with the Collective Agreement.
· Ability to orient new staff on assigned vehicles/equipment.
· Ability to use or learn to use various technical devices related to the position.
· Ability to deal courteously with the public.
· Ability to communicate in relation to their job duties.
· Must be physically capable of performing required duties (accommodation will be provided in all parts of the hiring process as required under the City’s Employment Accommodation Policy and the Joint Modified Work Program in the Collective Agreement) and able to work in all weather conditions.
