Job Title:Project and production officer

Responsible to:Creative manager

Overall Purpose of Job:

To ensure the effective development, production and management of Mencap publications, materials and communication resources.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Take responsibility for the production and project management of Mencap publications and materials.
  • Manage production of all publications developed by the creative services team, writing print specifications for jobs, selecting suppliers and building relationships, negotiating quotes, dealing with suppliers and keeping track of quotes using quote tracker system, sending jobs to print, checking proofs etc.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest print production techniques and determine the most efficient and cost effective methods whilst maintaining high standards of print.
  • Maintain the creative team administrative systems and procedures, including: logging, tracking and maintaining both electronic and hard copy job bags; preparing project reports for team meetings; managing the creative services email account, including external requests, and forwarding items to relevant team members for advice/action.
  • Manage projects from client brief to completion, liasing with client and other team members throughout including project administration.
  • Manage Mencap’s photo library dealing with issues of permission, copyright, updating, archiving and promotion. Research and write case stories and captions to accompany all photographs. Liaise with third parties to ensure best system.
  • Assist in finding new venues and subjects for photographic and video shoots. Manage shoots and follow up.
  • Deal with requests for the Mencap logo, Mencap photographs, publications, exhibition display boards, camera and the recording studio. Offer advice and guidance to internal and external requests.
  • Proofread written materials and artwork.
  • Assist in developing evaluation procedures for all of Mencap’s publications and materials.
  • Develop and maintain a publications, video and audio library/archive.
  • Assist in the running of the Mencap recording studio, including booking tapings and managing production of audio. Consider development and management of this resource.
  • Co-ordinate creative team training sessions for other Mencap departments.

  • Work with members of the creative services to ensure deadlines are met on all projects.
  • Actively participate as a member of the creative services team and communications department.
  • Keep abreast of events and changes in Mencap.
  • Develop Mencap’s credentials as an environmentally aware organisation.
  • Ensure new media is used as an effective means of communication.
