Equality Ethics Excellence

LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Awareness & Equality

What will the training achieve?

•Addresses the questions: “What is ‘LGBT’?”, “What are ‘homophobia’, ‘biphobia’ and ‘transphobia’?” and “Why do they matter to me in my workplace and personally?”

•Raises awareness of the most misunderstood “protected characteristics” (gender reassignment & sexual orientation) under the Equality Act, and the implications of the law

•Develops confidence and safety in exploring and asking questions about LGBT issues

•Overcomes resistance, negativity and fear around these areas through creating a positive and enjoyable learning environment

•Addresses questions of best practice in the workplace

the Equality Academy Facilitator: Sue Sanders

Inspirational speaker and facilitator, co founder and chair of LGBT History Month. Sue is an acknowledged nationwide subject matter expert. She delivers her training in an interactive and dynamic way and receives extraordinary feedback.

One day workshop: This is an area in which many managers and staff profess to be uncertain and ill-equipped. Details of the workshop are tailored specifically to your requirements, with the aim of emphasising the inclusion of LGBT people and issues in line with the law and best practice.

The training is interactive and experiential. It includes the historical context behind the recent and rapid move to equalisation of rights (in which Sue has played a prominent role) of LGBT people. The workshop includes the challenging exercise “Do you need treatment?” and focuses on practical issues relevant to your organisation in addressing issues that are frequently encountered, for example overcoming objections/resistance to LGBT equality, integrating LGBT issues into policies and practices, exploring the actual needs of LGBT staff and customers.

Testimonials include:

The words ‘inspiration’ and 'confirms me in my work', 'could have listened to Sue Sanders all day and realise I've so much more to learn' peppered the evaluation sheets. Many now feel they can bring their diversity policies alive.” June Sherlock, Diversity Officer North Lincolnshire Council.

“You (Sue) will be delighted to know that you achieved a 100% approval rating, it is clear that this is now an issue which can be discussed without any controversial overtones ... (we) are far better informed and “at ease” about the subject.” Rev Philip Tait,

Sue is also available as an experienced public speaker at conferences and in an advisory capacity for strategy and policy development.
