Dear DPS Guest Teachers,
The Denver Teacher Residency (DTR) is an innovative, hands-on teacher preparation program designed to train and support exceptional teachers in high-needs subject areas and schools within Denver Public Schools (DPS). DTR offers the opportunity to learn alongside a DPS master teacher for an entire academic year, during which time Residents observe, learn, and practice alongside our district’s best practitioners. In addition to the practicum experience, Residents also work towards their Master of Arts Degree at the University of Denver (DU). Through our partnership with DU’s Morgridge College of Education, Residents learn theory- and research-based approaches to best practices as they earn their Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction during the first year and a half of the program. Upon successful completion of the residency year, Residents earn a teaching certificate, secure a contract with DPS, and begin working as full-time teachers in our schools. In exchange for a five-year commitment to DPS (year one being the residency year), DTR offers full tuition reimbursement for the cost of tuition for the Master’s degree from DU.
In its inaugural year of 2009-2010, DTR selected 27 Residents from diverse academic, professional, and ethnic and cultural backgrounds who were ready to make the commitment to become exceptional, highly-effective teachers for the students of DPS. For the upcoming 2010-2011 year, DTR will accept 50 Residents ready to create their own success story and make a commitment to Denver Public Schools and its students. The DTR application is now open, and there will be two separate application deadlines. For the 2010 Residency there will be a Winter Admissions application deadline of December 18, 2009 and a Spring Admissions application deadline of March 19, 2010. For more information about the Denver Teacher Residency, to fill out an online application, and to RSVP for one of our upcoming information sessions, I invite you to visit us at In the meantime, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Juan Pablo Parodi
