Report:
The Equestrian Interschools Ireland league sponsored by Equestrian World of Maynooth and Jumpinaction competition resumed following the Christmas break in Broadmeadow Equestrian Centre Ashbourne Co. Meath Last Sunday. A total of twelve open teams battled it out for points in the league and most of the major league contenders were present. Laura Finnerty and Mark Finnerty produced two fast clears against the clock to take the win for St.Gerards Black Team, closing the gap with league leader Newbridge College who finished second. St gerards other team memebers were Shona Callan and Sarah Bloor.Newbridge College managed to get both their teams in the jump off with their black team coming second. This team consisted of Meadhbh Brassil, Hannah Sutton, Kate Hensey and Karen Casey. Gorey made their trip worthwhile by coming third, this team consisted of Doireann Ryan, Orla Allen, James Butler and Elma Butler. Claiming fourth place, Colaiste Bhride carnew, represented by Julie Mullins, Thomas Furlong Ellen Kavanagh and Aoife Kavanagh earned four league points. Since both St Gerards and Newbridge featured again in fifth and sixth place respectively the remaining league points passed to Eureka College and Ard scoil na Troinoide, Athy.
There was a reverse in the open individual when Newbridge claimed first and second from St Gerard’s in third. The competition was won by Aoife Murphy from Newbridge College riding Botchelli, second place was claimed by fellow Newbridge student Maedhbh Brassil, riding St. James Gate and third by Katie Dunphy from St. Gerards riding Ballyhad Diamond. Heather Maxwell representing Mohill Community College claimed fourth ahead of Molly Rasmussin and Hannah Sutton, fifth and sixth respectively both from Newbridge.
A good day for Newbridge continued when the action moved to the novice classes. The Novice team event was won by Newbridge College in a jump off against Scoil Mhuire Trim. The Newbridge Team Consisted of Emily O’Brien, Amy Carroll, Lisa Sexton and Orla Harrington. Second place went to Scoil Mhuire Trim with Ard Scoil na Trionoide coming third and Wesley College in ourth place
Newbridge also claimed the Novice individual which was won by Amy Carroll on Killington Lady. Pippa Durham from Wesley College took second place aboard Windale Honeybee, and third place was Orla Harrington riding Night Lights also from Newbridge College.
The action now moves to Tipperary where Rockwell College host the event on Sunday the 20th.
