Sacramental Prep Policy

First Eucharist and Reconciliation: Children preparing to receive First Sacraments in the second grade, and children who have not received the Sacraments in grades three and up, are given instruction through parent/child once a month meetings. Families are required to meet at the parish once a month to receive valuable one-on-one time with their child, the parish family and Catechists; the child and parent must complete them together! The child must have completed at least one year of faith formation in order to attend these classes. If your child attends ICOLPH parish school as a second grade student, they will do their preparation in class. If they attend the parish school and are in 3rd grade and up, they must attend the monthly meetings on Wednesday evenings.

Confirmation: Any high school student is welcome to enter the Confirmation preparation program. The Confirmation program not only serves as continued education on the Catholic faith but also to prepare the hearts of our youth to live a Christ inspired life. IC/OLPH is actively involved in the development of new means to prepare candidates for Confirmation, eschewing the traditional two-year classroom model for one which will allow students with the help of our leadership team to design their own spiritual journey through both proximate and immediate formation, allowing them a unique faith experience through an exploration of their own spiritual experiences as well as placing them in an intentional discipleship community. Each spring those candidates who are fully prepared and wish to receive the sacrament will be able to participate in the Confirmation mass.

Stewardship of Talent: The better our team of volunteers is, the better we can provide fantastic programing for our parish’s young people.

The children’s formal “journey of faith” will prepare them to celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation) during the Easter Vigil Celebration. For those age seven through grade five prep for these sacraments will be on Wednesday evenings at 7p.m. beginning in October; these youth must also register for religious education (#2 below). Those in grades six and up will complete their preparation at their age’s youth group.

2.  1st-5th Grade Religious Education: Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00PM to 8:00 PM starting in October and ending in May in the Faith Formation Building behind Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Tuition Fees: 1 child: $40.00; 2 children: $60; 3 or more children $80. (May be paid in installments).

3.  First Eucharist and Reconciliation: Sacrament Preparation is a two-year program! Both year one (proximate) and year two (immediate) take place on Wednesday evenings from 7:00PM to 8:00 PM from October until May.

Immediate preparation for First Holy Communion should include at least 4-6 sessions of catechetical formation directed toward the sacrament which happens once a month during regular faith formation classes.
