Class Overview:
CPM Core Connections Course 2 (units 4-9) and CC3 (units 1-5) is a yearlong course designed to accelerate students to complete Integrated I before they get to high school. The focus of the course will be to build the foundation necessary for success in the next course, Integrated II. Students will study the following topics during the year: probability, solving word problems, angle relationships, circles, volume, properties of mathematics, multiple representations including graphs, tables and equations of linear and non-linear situations, solving multi-step equations and systems of equations, operations of rational numbers and integers, solving and graphing inequalities, proportion, percentages, statistics and graphs, probability and measurement.
Class Structure:
Following Common Core standards, this class will focus around collaborative learning by investigating, discussing and discovering the different math concepts, while working in teams. Students will be assessed in different forms including team and Individual tests. The only way students will master the concepts is by being actively involved in their learning. I will be responsible for guiding, supporting and summarizing at all times. Homework will be given on a daily basis to help students practice and master the skills we have learned in class.

Scientific calculator (TI-30XIIS recommended)
Color pencils

- Be prepared for class 3. Write about it and get it signed by parent
- Pay attention and participate 4. Detention: call home

Parents, the following suggestions will help students be successful and have a positive experience this class:
• Encourage and support risk taking on homework and while working in groups.
• Talk on a regular basis about the concepts being taught.
• Read and discuss student toolkit and journal entries on occasion.
• Create an atmosphere at home where there is a designated study space and study time.
• Be open to math groups working together at homes in evenings and weekends.
• When students are asked to teach new concept to parents, be enthusiastic and attentive.
• Offer help with homework and suggest that students get help at school when necessary.
• If your student needs help, start by asking them to read the problem out loud.
• Ensure that student is attend school every day.

The focus of the course will be to build the foundation necessary for success in the next course. Students will study the following topics during the year: properties of mathematics, multiple representations including graphs, tables and equations of linear and non-linear situations, solving multi-step equations and systems of equations, operations of rational numbers and integers, solving and graphing inequalities, proportion, percentages, statistics and graphs, probability, applying algebra to geometry, measurement, and the introduction to polynomials.
