JOB TITLE: Head of Communications

DEPARTMENT: Communications

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive

CONTRACT: Maternity cover for a year from 24 January 2011

SALARY: c. £45,000

CLOSING DATE: Monday 29th November at 12 Noon

Main Purpose of the post

To maximise awareness of TimeBank to the widest possible range of audiences and, as manager of our Communications team, to ensure effective delivery of marketing and materials for our various projects.

Main Duties

1. Line manage the TimeBank Communications Team

2. Develop and articulate TimeBank’s brand, its vision and its work.

3. Take a lead role in how TimeBank is positioned and perceived both internally and externally.

4. Develop and deliver TimeBank’s overall communications strategy, ensuring we maintain our reputation for innovation and creativity.

5. Manage the development of effective communication strategies for all TimeBank’s work, ensuring these meet strategic objectives and the targets agreed with project managers.

6. Develop and manage an internal communications strategy, so that all staff are kept well informed about TimeBank’s range of activities.

7. Develop and manage direct relationships with key charities, corporate partners, PR agencies and other supporters to run joint promotion campaigns.

8. Ensure the media team deal with media enquiries efficiently and accurately.

9. Maintain brand guidelines and maintain consistent messages for all TimeBank’s projects and across communications, including print, online and broadcast media.

10. Manage the design and production of all TimeBank’s materials, e.g. press releases, web copy, publications etc.

11. Oversee the management of the TimeBank’s customer care strategy and implementation.

12. Manage the budget of the Communications team.

13. Contribute to the strategic development of TimeBank as a member of the management team.

14. Undertake any other duties at the discretion of the Chief Executive.

Person Specification

Essential

·  Extensive managerial experience of managing a large team in a communications capacity

·  Extensive experience in development and delivery of integrated marketing communications strategies

·  Evidence of creative contribution to large national communication campaigns, preferably within the voluntary sector

·  Effective time management skills and an ability to prioritise tasks and work flexibly to deadlines

·  Ability to think and act strategically.

Desirable

·  Proven ability to work in teams, to delegate where necessary, and to motivate others;

·  Ability to work under pressure and to manage a team to achieve multiple objectives according to agreed timescales and budgets;

·  Leadership qualities including an ability to exercise appropriate authority to ensure consistent quality and delivery;

·  In-depth experience of online marketing and communications;

·  Experience of working with outside agencies and free-lancers, managing contracts to ensure delivery of agreed specifications.
