Transfer Process:

When you receive your new Sprint device:

Do not plug in or put the battery in your new phone until after you have contacted Sprint to begin the activation. You may transfer your phone number to Sprint as soon as you have received your new device in a few simple steps using a toll-free number* and a self-service option. Your transfer will automatically occur by date (see device selection email for date specific to your group). Please make sure both your new and old devices are powered off before you begin this process:

The self-service option steps include the following (Hours of operation: Mon – Sat 7:00am – 12 midnight CST and Sunday 10:00am – 10:00pm CST):

1. Power off your old device.

2. Dial the self-service toll free number – 866-437-1818*; using a phone other than your BlackBerry

3. Enter your BlackBerry phone number to be transferred

4. Enter passcode: 92150

5. Follow the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) prompts

6. After 15 minutes power on your new device.

*This self-service toll-free number must ONLY be used to transfer your phone number to Sprint.

Put the battery in your new device and plug it into the power adaptor to start charging. When your BlackBerry is powered on for the first time, it will go through a hands-free activation and then will be ready for voice use. If the hands-free activation fails, you will get an error message similar to “activation needed”. If this error should occur, please remove the battery from the device for a full 60 seconds, replace the battery, and power the BlackBerry on. The device should go through the hands-free activation again. If it fails a second time, please contact the Sprint Help Desk directly at 1-800-927-2199. The USPS IT Service Desk cannot assist you with the activation process.

Once the device is powered on and activated it will ask you about creating a Blackberry ID. If you scroll all the way down you may select Ask me later. (This is only necessary for downloading applications from Blackberry App World, which is optional and not supported by the USPS HelpDesk.) For more information on the Blackberry ID go to KB48107 - Blackberry – What is a Blackberry ID?. You MUST use your ACE workstation to access the links for the transfer process.

Disregard the message the Web Desktop Manager shows on the screen. DO NOT have your device plugged into your workstation at this time. Doing so will confuse your activation, or cause it fail.

After your phone number is moved to Sprint, please use the BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager (http://bbmanager.usps.gov) to obtain a password needed to complete activation for your email.

Once you are at the site log in with your ACE User Name and password, and then click Create an Enterprise Activation Password on the top left in the Home box and follow the prompts. You can make the password as simple as you want as it is a one-time use password and expires after 24 hours.

After setting your Enterprise Activation Password you can now move to your device to complete the activation to get your emails flowing. Find the Setup Icon, you may have to scroll down and or click on All to view it, it looks like a BlackBerry with a gear on it.

·  Select Email Accounts

·  Select Enterprise Accounts

·  Enter your email address () and the enterprise activation password (from the step above).

·  Click the Activate button.

·  You should see messages appear such as "Contacting server…".The Enterprise activation may take a long time to complete (more than an hour) depending on the mailbox size.

·  Once the activation is complete, ensure you can send and receive email from the BlackBerry device

Full password reset and Enterprise Activation instructions are located at: https://usps-ithelpdesk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/393/kw/393/r_id/107760

After your new BlackBerry is functional, you must return your current device with the battery within 5 business days to your POC or local IT Manager. Power on your old device and wipe it using the standard process KB38051 - Blackberry - Removing personal data from the device. You may keep the accessories if they work with your new Blackberry and remove the micro-SD card from your old device. Do not use the recycle bag that comes with the new device. It is critical that you return your old device for credits due to USPS - return your old device to your POC or your local IT manager. If you are unable to return the device to either your POC or IT Manager please send the old device to Bob Najman.

Your MS Outlook email, contacts, and calendar information will transfer to your new device. Contacts you currently have on your SIM card will not transfer.

Once the port has been completed and your phone is powered on for the first time, it will go thru a hands-free activation. Once this is completed, the phone will restart on its own, and then will be ready for use.

We recommend you turn off the ‘prompting’ box for roaming at this time as well (the default is to prompt):

  2. Click Networks and Connections > Mobile Network.

o  To remove the prompt when roaming, change the While Roaming field to On

  1. Press the key > Close.

We recommend you turn off location based services (LBS) at this time as well (the default is set to ‘on’ – this drains the battery).

2.  Change the Location Services field to Location Off.

______
