ACTIVITIES

  • The ASCLS-MN Area Directors/committees provided several educational sessions over the last year, notably, a very successful student night in November.
  • Student Membership in ASCLS-MN continues to be very strong – Board is focusing on strategies to convert the members to FYP.
  • Board President Jeff Radle participated with a booth at the Minnesota Science Teachers symposium in February in Duluth, MN (fifth year for ASCLS-MN participation), talking with science teachers about career paths for students in the lab field.
  • Board President-Elect Sue Iddings spoke to students about healthcare careers at the Minnesota Science Museum in April.
  • The Annual 2016 Spring Clinical Laboratory Collaborative was held in Brooklyn Center, MN. This collaboration of eight professional societies - with ASCLS-MN membersvery much involved in the planning - was successful, educational, and well attended.
  • The Silent Auction held at the collaborative meeting was also a huge success, with monies raised supporting the Elizabeth Panning Medical Laboratory Science Scholarship fund.
  • The annual membership meeting was also held during the CLC with election of officers and delegates to the national meeting,numerous awards presented, Committee/Regional/National reports presented, and approval of the 2016-17 budget.
  • The 2017 Clinical Laboratory Collaborative Meeting will be held May 3 – May 5, 2017 at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center in Duluth,MN.
  • Three board meetings were held throughout the year - fall, winter and spring.
  • Workforce Summit was held in September in St. Cloud, MN focusing on personnel shortages; audience was a mix of Laboratory Managers, Educators and Human Resources Managers
  • Region V Symposium was held in Alexandria, MN in October, several MN members were very active on the planning committee.
  • The ASCLS-MNMembership committee was very active in member retention and member engagement activities, including hosting a lapsed-member phone-a-thon in November.
  • CLEC 2016 was held in Minneapolis, MN in February.
  • ASCLS-MN had 8 members attend the Legislative Symposium in March.
  • Finances for ASCLS-MN continue to be positive, although reserves are much lower than in years past due to previous licensure efforts.
  • Board initiatives for the coming year include bolstering ASCLS-MN financial reserves and reviewing state area structure due to on-going gaps in filling leadership positions.
