Role of the SME International Director/Member Council Nominating Committee

Potential members of this Nominating Committee must have many of the qualities and capabilities of the Directors and Member Council representatives that they are responsible for nominating. Ability to communicate, recognize critical capabilities and characteristics of fellow professionals is paramount for this critical committee. The strength of SME depends on evaluations and selections made by this Nominating Committee.

Important characteristics of International Director/Member Council Nominating Committee Members:

  • Knowledge of SME purpose, strategies and structure.
  • Keen interest in the health, wellbeing and future of SME and the manufacturing profession.
  • Able to work as a committee member for the good of SME, not as an advocate for any one chapter.

Filling positions on the Board of Directors and Member Council requires Nominating Committee members to share the broader vision and understand characteristics important for the appropriate level of each nominated position. Due to the long-term impact of this particular Committee’s work, special consideration must also be given to the characteristics of those being considered for membership on the Nominating Committee itself. Potential Nominating Committee members must be available to actively participate in all telephone meetings of the Committee, an orientation session, and a final meeting to select Director and Member Council nominees.

Roles of the Board of Directors and Member Council

Candidates for both the Board and the Member Council serve as role models and must show a record of professional or business leadership in the field of manufacturing coupled with an avowed interest in SME. Candidates should have demonstrated evidence of the ability to plan, organize, lead people and deal with financial matters. Members of the Nominating Committee are not eligible for nomination by the Committee.
