King's Ely is a thriving independent school with around 1000 pupils aged 1 – 18. Nearly 250 over the age of 8 are boarders.

There are three main catering areas which fall under the responsibility of the Catering Management team. Firstly the Monastic Barn, a 14th Century open beamed tithe barn and King’s Ely’s main dining hall. This is a seven day operation offering breakfast and dinner for 250 boarders and lunch for 900 pupils and staff during term time (34 weeks). During out of term periods the school caterers for external events, holiday let’s and also has an extensive 4 week Summer School programme.

Secondly Acremont House, this is King’s Ely’s Nursery and caters for some 150 pupils and staff five days per week for lunch only. (Term Time only)

And thirdly, The Old Palace Refectory, this serves King’s Ely Sixth Form and caters for 200 students and staff five days per week for lunch only. (Term Time only)

King’s Ely is extremely proud of the function work carried out both for internal functions such as house dinners and the annual leavers’ ball and external events including weddings, conferences and residential lettings.

Key responsibilities:

In this role you will be working with the Senior Chef de Partie responsible for preparing and cooking foods for the boarders and day students plus staff each day, under the guidance of the Sous chef and Head Chef who have ultimate responsibility for the running of the kitchen.

To maintain the hygiene standards for the kitchen and appropriate areas, as set out in the King’s Ely Hygiene Policy. The Catering Manager holds a copy.

To report to the Catering Manager any damage or defects to buildings, furnishings and equipment which you may notice during your daily routine.

It is the duty of every employee to read and comply with Kings Ely health and safety policy documents. The Catering Manager holds a copy.

To fulfil any other duties as specified by the Catering Manager.

Remuneration and Hours

Hours - 40 hours per week, working a two week system, one weekend on and one off, plus one day off in the week. Early shift 7am – 3pm. Late shift 11am – 7pm

Start Date – asap

Salary in the region of £17,900

Holidays – 25 days’ per annum

Training:

King’s Ely recognises the value of training its staff in relevant areas to enable them to fulfil their potential, and to maintain a happy and committed workforce. Some Health and Safety training would be essential.

Terms & Conditions

There is a pension scheme operated by the School for the support staff. The employee's contribution is 6.4% of gross pay by monthly deductions at source and the School contributes 16∙48% (please note that the school's level of contribution is currently linked to its contribution to the Teachers' Pension and therefore may vary upwards or downwards in future years)

An alternative, auto enrolment pension involving lower contributions is also in place.

Members of staff are entitled to educate their own children in any of the three parts of the school. There is a staff discount from Reception Year onwards; the discount is 50% for full-time staff, reduced pro-rata for part-time staff, subject to an overall limit of 50% of gross salary. All extra items are to be paid in addition.

The school offers a private healthcare insurance scheme, which staff may opt to join, at their expense, at the start of each academic year.
