Annual General Meeting

June 18, 2015

1) Call to order:at 6:45 by Kerniel Aasland, meeting facilitator.

2) Greetings from MLA Rob Altemeyer:Greeting were presented on behalf of Rob Altemeyer.

3) Approval of agenda:Approved as presented.

4) Minutes of 2014 annual general meeting:Approved as presented.

5) Financials:

a) Presentation of audited financial statements:Greg MacPherson, WBCO executive director, presented the organization’s audited financial statements on behalf of WBCO’s accountant. A question was asked about the source of donations listed in the statement. Greg notes there was an increase in donations over 2013 due to a fundraising concert for the Good Food Club featuring Barney Bentall, held during this fiscal year.

b) Motion to approve the audited financial statements as presented:Approved.

c) Motion to approve Craig and Ross as WBCO’s auditors for the 2015 fiscal year:Approved.

6) Board of director’s report:BrentMitchell, WBCO board chair, presented.Brentthanked the community, board members, and especially WBCO’s staff for their dedication and hard work.Brentalso expressed his thanks to members of the community for attending the annual general meeting.

7) Executive director’s report:Greg MacPherson presented. He thanked community members for attending the AGM, and thanksBrentand the board for support and guidance. Greg also thanked WBCO’s staff for making the organization a great one to work with. Greg also thanked former and outgoing staff members Damien Gagne, Jovan Lottis, Art Ladd, Stephanie Fulford, and Jamie Foxx for their work. A community member expressed thanks to Greg and WBCO’s staff for their work.

8) Election of board members:

a) Speeches from nominees:There were five vacancies on the WBCO board of directors, and five nominees, who were therefore acclaimed. New board members Kayla Chafe, Matthew Kreider, David Nickarz, and Jasmine Tara introduced themselves. (Ian Sunabacka sent his regrets.)

b) Motion to acclaim nominees as new board members:Approved.

9) West Broadway five-year plan - call for steering committee members:Greg presented. He explained the purpose of the community plan, which is the document that steers WBCO’s work. Greg asked for volunteers to join a steering committee to develop a new five-year plan, and asked that anyone interested contact him or talk after the AGM.

10) Pillar of West Broadway award:Greg presented. He noted the award is given each year to someone who helps make the community a better place. He also noted it is usually not given to WBCO staff, but made an exception in presenting this year’s award to WBCO’s retiring accountant, Allyson Watts, for her dedication and remarkable work for WBCO.

11) Thanks to outgoing board members:Brentpresented, and thanks Fiona Plett, Bruce Spielman, and Marshall Wiebe for their dedication and service on WBCO’s board.

12) Other items:

-Harry Payne reminded members of the Right to Housing walk, planned for Monday, June 22

- Leah McCormick, executive director of the West Broadway BIZ, noted a Bike to Work pit stop planned for Friday, June 19, a vintage flea market planned for July 18, and the upcoming Sherbrook Street Festival in September.

- Todd Donohue noted a fundraising walk for Crossways in Common, planned for Sept. 26.

- A question was asked about an e-mail list to provide information on upcoming events. Greg asked people to make sure they are signed up to receive e-mail updates from WBCO.

- Greg thanked partners from Neighbourhoods Alive! for attending the AGM.

- A community member thanked Jovan Lottis for all her work with West Broadway tenants.
