JOB TITLE: Union Manager
HOURLY RATE: $10.00
SUPERVISOR: Student Union Assistant Director
JOB FUNCTION: The Union Manager (UM) is a leadership position with a high degree of responsibility in the area of facilities management. The role of the UM is to reasonably meet the needs of all Student Union guests and customers. Specifically, the Union Manager on duty is responsible for the general management and oversight of the Student Union and events scheduled during their shifts.
HOURS: Averages 15-20 hours per week including regular staff meetings, and occasional evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Attend weekly Union Manager meetings to develop a knowledge and understanding of future events, and to gain a perspective on upcoming work loads and levels of activity.
2. Check event set-ups prior to scheduled event reservation times to insure proper equipment set-up, Audio-Visual equipment is functioning properly, comfortable temperature and lighting levels, and general professional appearance of the space.
3. Act as a resource for the events, providing ideas and suggestions.
4. Communicate changes in set-ups, additional requests, complaints, and compliments to the Conference Services and Catering Office.
5. Monitor and control the Student Union environment, including HVAC, lighting, cleanliness, furnishings, art, event set-ups, and public spaces. Actively manage the facility.
6. Observe, act upon, and report unusual occurrences and incidents (such as vandalism, theft, illness (including alcohol and drug related problems), etc.) in the proper manner.
7. Coordinate and observe Union staff in the absence of direct area supervisors
8. Supervise and coordinate access to vault, safes and funds. Provide security for funds and cash flow.
9. Know and understand all emergency procedures. Understand alarm equipment and procedures.
10. Interpret policies and procedures of the Student Union and Boise State University to students, staff, faculty, alumni, and guests.
11. Secure the Student Union and associated facilities at the end of each day, per established procedures.
12. Demonstrate teamwork and support of Student Union service and activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate) per semester during the academic year.
2. Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. 1 year of supervisory experience and some knowledge of the Student Union.
2. Personable and highly motivated.
3. Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills.
4. Ability to work extended shifts.
5. Enjoys working with diverse groups.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Moving and lifting equipment weighing up to 35 lbs.
2. Climbing ladders up to 14 feet above floor surface.
3. Push heavy equipment carts across floor surfaces.
4. Reaching and lifting equipment above the shoulders.
5. Sustaining repetitive motion from setting up meeting room equipment.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Working in teams of 6 to 10 people at a time.
2. Interpreting written instructions.
3. Being organized and prioritizing school, work and personal life.
4. Interacting with customers and assisting them with their needs.
5. Using basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
