Ebola Peri-Operative Preparedness in West Africa.

Aim: To survey anesthesiologists in West Africa in order to determine peri-operative preparedness to deal with highly infectious organisms such as hemorrhagic fever viruses. Collaboration between the World Health Organization Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care Anesthesia and the World Federation Of Societies of Anesthesiologists.

Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital inLiberia on Mar 2014 and at the Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists Critical Care Conference in Nigeria on Nov 2014. Certified 10% of Nigeria’s anesthesiologists on the Fundamental of Critical Care Supportcourse. Data collected on educational material, currently in analysis and writing steps. Aim: Project includes supporting the hospital becoming the region's leading training center, developing code and rapid response teams, supporting the development of intensive care units, developing a hospital library, collecting and analyzing data on patient care and education, supporting local research coordinator to collect data, teaching regional blocks and ultrasound, coordinating with surgical groups to support surgical education.

Partnership with Ben Carson Medical School and Babcock University in Ilishan-Remo, Nigeria.
Aim: International partnership that includes Vanderbilt University, Johns Hopkins University, Wayne State University, and the Korle Bu Neuroscience Foundation in Canada. Project includes health system strengthening initiatives including lectures and educational medical mission trips, with first trip on Nov 2014. Currently organizing a neurosurgery education trip funded by Codman Neuro by Johnson & Johnson with expected deployment date of April 2015. Nov 2014-Present.

Working with leaders at Pro-Health International, one of the largest African-based medical mission groups, on health system strengthening projects focused on anesthesia patient safety. Project included observation and participation in medical mission on Nov 2014.
African Partnerships for Patient Safety.
Aim: Helped draft WHO (World Health Organization) Patient Safety Programme for partnership between Johns Hopkins, Liberia, South Sudan, and Uganda hospitals. Partnership includes ongoing projects with the goal of improving hospital safety, focusing on hand hygiene and waste management. 7.23.2014-present.
