CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER

Spring 2018 Semester

Get all the important information needed to start an exciting successful fitness career and become a Certified Personal Trainer. This challenging course is for candidates wanting LIVE instruction with in-depth, hands-on practical labs to master the career skills and knowledge. Employers like 24 Hour Fitness, LA Fitness, and Gold’s Gym are just a few of the club groups who seek out our graduates.

This course is offered through a partnership with World Instructor Training Schools (W.I.T.S.), the only major certifying body in the country providing comprehensive practical training and internship components. W.I.T.S. is an approved CEU provider for the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers, the American Occupational Therapy Association, Veterans Training and Education, the International Association for Continuing Education and Training and the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

Required Course

HES-451, SYN #28219 Personal Trainer (6 sessions)

Sunday, 2/4/18 – 3/25/18, (no classes 2/18 and 3/18), Largo Campus

9:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m., classroom lecture Continued Ed building room 104

11:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. practical portion, Novak Field House, room 100

This challenging course consists of 15 hours of lecture on key topics like biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage and health assessments to game plan a solid program for your client. The best part is the 15 hours of hands-on practical training labs with role playing drills on assessing clients, programming, performing proper exercises, presentation skills and more. Included are weekly quizzes and the certification exam on the last day of class.

Program Requirements

o  Must be at least 18 years of age before the start date of the class

o  Must take the Accuplacer reading comprehension placement test and obtain a score of 45 or higher OR provide proof of college credits.

o  Pass both the written and practical examinations

o  Present your current CPR/AED certificate to W.I.T.S staff

Certification

Students who successfully complete HES-451 are eligible for level one and level two certification.

To earn a Level 1 Personal Trainer National Certificate (3.0 CEUs), students must:

·  Attend the six class sessions

·  Hold active CPR/AED certification prior to taking the exams

·  Pass written and practical exams

To earn a Level 2 Personal Trainer National Certificate (3.0 CEUs), students must

·  Successfully complete Level 1, including passing both exams

·  Document proof of completion of a 30-hour internship at a fitness facility

·  Maintain active CPR/AED certification

Level 2 is included in our HES-451 course; there is no additional tuition. A list of area participating facilities is provided to students who complete Level 1 certification.

Tuition: $798.00 per course

Students may register early and make regular payments at the Cashier’s Office, Bladen Hall, Room 120, until the tuition is paid in full. Final payment must be made at least 3 days prior to the class start date. PGCC will drop you for incomplete registration two days before the class starts if the tuition is not paid in full.

·  Take the Accuplacer Placement Test at Main Campus or University Town Center. Get a student ID number and bring the Placement Test Referral form with you.
