Academic Scholarship Program

Notre Dame High School has offered academic scholarships to incoming ninth graders since its early existence. These awards are based completely on academic excellence; financial need is not a consideration. Each award is $250 per year, for the first two years. The scholarships are awarded by a Scholarship Committee, representing faculty and administration. Applications will be assigned a number and will be considered anonymously.

Application Process and Criteria: All parts must be completed for consideration.

  1. Personal Essay:Each applicant will be asked to come to Notre Dame on Saturday,

March 18, 2018,at 9:30AM to write an essay (250-300 words) on a choice of subjects decided

by the Scholarship Committee. Essays shall be judged on insight, originality of thought, and readability.

4. Applicant's Grades: The 7th grade final report card and 8th grade first semester report card should be sent to Karen Jennings,8th Grade Scholarship Program, Notre Dame High School, 1400 Maple Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904 or . Current ND 8th graders will have this part handled automatically.

  1. Letter of Recommendation:Each student shall request a letter of recommendation from

his/herJunior High principal or administrator. Letters should address qualities such as academic

potential, intellectual curiosity, leadership, initiative, personal responsibility and service. The

letter should be sent to Karen Jennings, 8th Grade Scholarship Program, Notre Dame High School,

1400 Maple Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904 or .

Current ND 8th graders will have this part handledautomatically.

Completed application materials must be submitted by Friday, March 16, 2018, for consideration.

Selection Process:

  1. The President will affix an ID number to all materials to be screen by the selection committee to ensure anonymity.
  1. Each essay will be scored by the Selection Committee.
  1. Student grades over 7th and the first semester of 8th grade will be considered in the selection process.
  1. The candidate’s character, leadership, and academic qualifications will be considered, as described in the administrator’s letter of recommendation and in the application information completed by the candidate.
