Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs

Nominations and applications are sought to fill the open position Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs. A member of Dean’s Leadership Council, the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs oversees all faculty hiring and recruiting, departmental assignment, compensation, and incentive management. The Associate Dean works closely with the Dean regarding college policy on such matters, and in collaboration with faculty departments and their chairs; on faculty affairs, promotion and tenure, and other college committees; and with other applicable committees/units of the campus. The Associate Dean fosters academic leadership development opportunities, including assisting with the orientation of new department chairs. The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs reports to the Dean of the Robinson College of Business.

We now in the midst of creating a new kind of business school -one uniquely capable of developing people from all backgrounds into talented business leaders able to create value in an era of digital transformation. We areextending our STEM perspectives and capabilities in new areas - computer science, statistics and engineering - and integrating them with the core activities of the business school. Our students are learning to connect these analytical skills with business concepts in immersive experiences, allowing them to capture value from innovation in rapidly changing environments. In all, Robinson itself is learning new ways to collaborate with faculty, students, and business partners to develop a new generation of business leaders.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic:

·  Serves the faculty by promoting excellence in research and teaching, and ensuring that Robinson’s mission and values are communicated and understood by all faculty members;

·  Builds the quality and depth of faculty base in support of Robinson’s strategic direction;

·  Makes recommendations regarding the portfolio of part-time faculty, non-tenure-track, tenured, and tenure-track faculty;

·  Champions faculty diversity and inclusion efforts;

·  Invests time in helping tenure and non-tenure track faculty members at each career stage identify opportunities and strategies for professional growth;

·  Serves as a member of the Dean’s Leadership Council to provide a coordinated college-wide approach to strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of investments in educational and research program development.

Managerial:

·  Works with the Associate Dean for Academic Program Innovation to assess whether the teaching assignments proposed by department chairs are aligned to the mission and goals of the college;

·  Oversees all faculty recruiting, hiring, retention, promotion and tenure, structured review, and reappointment review processes. Review and approve all adjunct, graduate teaching, PhD Teaching Fellow, and Visiting Faculty appointments.

·  On an annual basis, ensures the faculty annual activity evaluation and goal setting processes are carried out including all adjustments to faculty salary, professional development budgets, and workload;

·  On a triennial basis, ensures the 3-year evaluation of departments chairs is carried out;

·  In partnership with department chairs, ensures success in all AACSB, SACS, and USG reporting and accreditation efforts associated with faculty composition and credentials;

·  Develops and oversees college-level faculty professional development programs including the Brightman Mentoring Teaching Program, the individual professional development budgets, and all faculty awards programs.

Representational:

Serves as a member of the Executive Committee and the Dean’s Leadership Council. Serves as ex-officio member of the Faculty Affairs Committee and the Faculty Development Committee.

The Associate Dean communicates with college and university counterparts to explore opportunities that increase the efficiency of faculty hiring and management. As appropriate, the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs coordinates with the Associate Dean for Research Strategy on campus-wide initiatives that require securing new faculty talent.

Appointment

This Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs is a faculty position. The successful candidates must have an earned doctorate or terminal degree and will continue to engage in teaching, research and professional development, with adjustments to annual workload and compensation consistent with responsibilities and qualifications. The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs will be tenured and hold the faculty rank of Associate Professor or higher.

Process

The search committee charged to recruit and interview candidates is chaired by Nate Bennett, Associate Dean for Program Innovation. Interested candidates are invited to submit their application materials which should include: 1) a letter addressing how the candidate’s experiences match the position requirements; 2) a curriculum vitae and; 3) the names, titles, and contact information of at least five professional references. Initial screening of applications will begin immediately. The position will remain open until filled but preference may be given to resumes received by March 1, 2018.
