Learn to Explore; Explore to Learn
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the new school year and Pre-K – 4-1 at Blessed Sacrament! We are here to provide a safe, fun and stimulating environment for your children. In this school year we will focus on letter recognition and formation, letter sounds, and phonics. We will also be exploring number recognition, patterns and sequencing, and understanding quantity. Religion is taught everyday. Art and music are incorporated with all the units taught in class.
We are also teaching the children to develop a self-confident, independent identity where they will show both you and I how they are maturing and growing both academically and socially.
The following are some important details about our school year:
Classroom Supplies
This year we are asking the students to bring in cleaning supplies:
- 2 containers of Clorox wipes
- 2 rolls of papers towels
- 2 boxes of tissue boxes
- 2 packs of flushable wipes
- 1 bottle of hand sanitizer
Classroom supplies we are asking each student to bring in are as follows:
- 1 backpack large enough to fit a lunchbox, school folder and other school materials
- $100 class fee for crayons, pencils, glue, art supplies and other class materials
Arrival
The classroom door will open at 8:20am. All are welcomed to come into the classroom. Students will put their own belongings on their proper hooks, and begin their morning routine: attendance (signing in (tracing name) at their desk spot), putting their school folder in their cubbies in the hallway, and “book browsing” on the rug or playing with provided toys/materials. PLEASE BE ON TIME. This will give your child the opportunity to participate in the morning “special” or circle time (which includes the pledge of alliance, morning prayer, calendar and weather), and it avoids distractions if the class has begun. I ask that all parents be on their way by 8:45am so that we can begin our day.
Dismissal
The classroom door will open at 2:20pm. As soon as you pick up your child, please exit the school building (stairwell at the opposite end of our hallway) immediately so there will be less traffic in the hallway.
You will enter the school building using the East staircase (the stairs directly in front of the school’s entrance) and exit down the hall using the West staircase (down the hall, by Ms. Claire’s and Ms. Alice’s classrooms).
**The elevator will be used only if there is a medical emergency (for drop off and pick up).
*Remember to pick up your child’s folder from his/her cubby right outside the classroom door at dismissal.
*Please let us know if your child has any aftercare or afterschool activities.
*Late pick up is in the gym.
Early Dismissal
When school has an early dismissal (half a day), drop off will remain the same time, unless you are told differently and the classroom door will open at 11:20am for dismissal.
*If you or someone else will be picking up your child earlier than 2:20pm, please inform us. When that person comes to pick up your child, that person must go to the Main Office. The office will phone the classroom and one of the teachers will bring your child down.
Absent Notes
If your child is absent, please send me a quick email to let me know in the morning. Please also send in a note with him/her the next day explaining why he/she was absent.
If you know ahead of time that your child will be missing a number of days of school due to vacation, last minute change of plans etc., please provide a note explaining how long the child will be away and the reason why.

*Label All Clothing* (sweatshirts, sweaters) anything that your child can take off should be labeled with his or her name. Please label everything so we know what belongs to each child.
*Please bring in an extra change of clothes in case there is a spill or your child has an accident: underwear, a pair of socks, a pair of pants, a shirt and an extra plastic bag in case your child has an accident. Please write your child’s name on the bag containing all of these items.
*Dress Down Days: Please have your child wear sneakers when they are dressing down on days that we have gym or park scheduled. (Gym: Thursday and Friday, Park: Fridays, Field trips – TBD).
Folders
Your child will be given a blue folder for the year. This folder is where you will find all the homework and important notifications that are sent from the office and/or myself. This year I will send out monthly schedules/announcements where you will be informed of all of the current events for that month.
Homework
Starting in the Fall, the children will be receiving a homework packet each Monday. They should work on and complete it to be handed back in each Friday.
*All About Me Project: This September, the students will focus on getting to know one another. I have an “All About (child’s name)” poster project to do each week with the students (focusing on one student per week), which I will need photos and short answers to. Please provide a photo of your student, your family, and a brief word or two about: 1. Their age, 2. Their favorite color, 3. What their favorite animal is, 4. What their favorite food is, 5. What their favorite place is, 6. What he/she wants to be when they grow up, 7. What their favorite thing to do is, and 8. If they had one wish, what would they wish for? You can type these quick responses out.**Please return these materials by Monday, September 18th.
Backpacks and lunch boxes/bags
Please have a large enough backpackthat will hold your child’s folder, books, folders and lunch box/bag. Please label the backpack.
Snack and Lunch Times
Everyday the children will have snack and lunch. If possible, it would be helpful to separate the snack and lunch within their one lunch box. Please send your child with a healthy, nutritional snack and lunch plus a drink(s). On early dismissal days, the children will only be having snack (please provide).

Birthdays
If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday in the classroom, we are happy to do so! In the past, the parents brought in pizza and cupcakes during lunch (please also provide plates, napkins, and waters). Please arrive at 11:15 if you are bringing pizza to the classroom. It is up to you how you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday. We will speak about it and schedule a day and time.
*Please be aware of student’s allergies when providing food/treats for the class.
Rest Time
Students will have “Quiet Time” after lunch and bathroom. Some students will sleep, others will not. Each child needs a nap mat for rest time. Please no blankets or stuffed animals. They become a big distraction. “Quiet Time” will be approximately forty-five (45) minutes long.
*You can purchase your child’s mat at Please purchase the Kid-Napper rest mat for $32.95. This form of a rest mat will be easy to layout and put away for the children. At the end of every week (Friday), the children will take the mats home to be wash and return again the following week.
Central Park
When weather permits, in the Fall and Spring, Pre-K-4 classes will be heading to the Central Park playground between 9:45 -11am on Fridays (across Traven on the Green). We will need at least twelve (12) chaperones for our class, but the more the merrier. Please remember, there are three (3) Pre-K4 classes going to the park at the same time plus those children that are already in the public park. A sign up sheet will be available outside the classroom door (on the Monday before that Friday) for those who want to chaperone. If we do not have enough chaperones for the class, I will have to cancel the park day.
Class Trips
For all trips, the students will need a permission slip to be signed. Please read the forms thoroughly and make sure the consent forms are return promptly on its due date.
We will also need chaperones for the class trips. On the permission slips, it will always ask if someone can chaperone on the trip.Parents that do chaperone for the trip/park are responsible for the children assigned to them. There will be some trips that a chaperone is MANDORTORY for each student. No siblings are allowed on the class trips unless otherwise informed. For some trips, the class will have lunch at that location. Please bag the lunch in a paper bag/plastic bag, so when he/she is done, all can be thrown away.
Family Participation
Families are a big part of our community. If you would like to come in and share a holiday project or a project that relates to the current unit of the month with the class please come and talk to me. Our classroom always welcomes you!
*Mystery Readers
During our afternoon circle time, the children and I share a story. What the children enjoy even more is when they hear there will be a “mystery reader” coming in to read the story. So we invite you to volunteer to come in and be a “mystery reader.” All family members are welcomed. Please send me an email to let me know what day you would like to come so we can discuss ahead of time. Please arrive promptly at 1:45pm (until about 2:05pm).
*Holiday Parties:
For all holiday parties, I ask that only teachers and students attend (Christmas party welcomes parents in the classroom). Parents provide sweets, a healthy snack, and drinks. Any holiday goodies can be placed in the student’s cubbies in the hallway.
*Holiday Parent Projects:
Please let me know if you would like to come in with a holiday project for the students! (Please bring all materials needed for project).
Meetings
We will have a Parent/Teacher conference during the school year. This is where you and I sit down and talk about the progress of your child. If you would like to meet with me for any reason, I am available in the mornings from 8:00-8:20am, or after school on some days. Please feel free to approach me if you have any concerns at anytime.
Ms. Ally and I welcome you to this 2017-2018 school year in Pre-K 4, and we are looking forward for a great educational journey with you and your children. We appreciate in advance all of your support for this coming school year!
